Blues ML tonight, -140, medium/large play

  • the Round Robin results were not indicative of their competitve potential, they did not forecheck much (their forte), nor did they check hard overall, it was not playoff hockey, the teams did not value a higher seed with no understanding of who they will play next (seeds #1-4, not much difference, no home ice)
  • defensive oriented teams like the Blues are not in a favorable situation in the Round Robin, more balanced teams or those offensively oriented had an advantage
  • Blues actually played solid hockey, all were very close games, uncharacteristically faltered in the 3rd periods
  • did they play like NFL pre season, working on things, not hitting hard, not worried about winning? ... my people say, yes, that is what they did
  • Binnington looked pretty good though he was under fire a lot
  • Tarasenko looked good last game, coming off his injury, he and Thomas sat game #2
  • other teams watned to send a message, beat the Stanley Cup champs...
  • Berube will motivate them...
  • NO WAY The Blues are not fired up for this game, it is a big game for them, they know they did not check and execute, and now need to play their game

The Blues have virtually their entire roster back from last year. Sure, Vancouver is younger and faster but The Blues are much better defensively and more physical; the playoffs start tonight for the Blue Note.

Put a medium play on the Blues tonight, 60 min, -1/2 +108

I hate to bet on what happened last year, but last year they would slip and then come back with a roar. Also, regular season they were the best in the West.

  • First game, they allowed 3 power play goals, refs calling everything, this hurts Blues style a lot. Blues were one of the least penalized in the regular season... also seems like players are flopping more than ever, the European influence, maybe?
  • Binnington let in 2, maybe 3 goals that I would normally think he would stop.
  • Taresenko did not look like much 1st game, he is sorely needed by a Blues offense that is struggling
  • Canucks looked like the better team, all around, in the 3rd period of game 1, no doubt (3-0 in 3rd period!)
  • With the long break, fast teams are fresher than they were in the playoffs last year, teams like the Blues are not as easily going to wear teams down with physical play.

BUT I will put $$$ on the Blues here, if they falter I will stay away from them for awhile...

I went BIG on Blues tonight -135, they clearly dominated last half of game #2, 3rd period and OT, should have won, lost on freak mistake, both veteran defenders on the same side of the rink and Horvath snuck behind for a very long stretch pass. Blues were all over the Canucks, wore them down but could not get the puck in the net a final time in OT.

Ice will be a mess after all those games today, that helps the Blues, defense and physical play will wear down the formerly fresh speed team but overall lightweight Canucks.

(I know I said I'd pass on the Blues if they lost game 2, but they should dominate tonight... so play at your own risk, I like 'em! GL!)

despicable reffing in the last game still van wins
on stl's 2nd goal there was a high stick to edler's face b4 he passed to a stl for a goal
stl's 1st goal should never have been in the 1st place
sutter was denfenseless b4 taking a hit face first into the boards. that's a 5 min major. instead blues get a pp? complete bs
they relied on luck and controversy on the tying goal looked like it shouldnt have counted
van is too fast for these blues. horvat is the new superstar of the nhl

bettman wants stl it's not a secret. 6-2 pp adv last game. cant make it that obvious again?

this was my assessment on game 2. gm 3 canucks have to beat refs/bettman + blues- so u might be right

IMO game #2 reffing was not nearly as outrageous as game #1, where Blues called for 6 penalties, some were ridiculous penalties, not playoff hockey. Blues were least penalized in NHL in the regular season, so you complain about # 2 officiating but do not mention game #1. Vancouver scored 3 power play goals in the first game. Blues expected playoff hockey reffing, it hurt their physical style, helped the Canucks.

Game #2 (the reffing might have been handled to offset in inequities of game #1), The Blues physical play dominated mid 3rd, tied the game and continued to win the individual battles in OT, but an unfortunate mistake on D (both Blues D on same side) allowed a long stretch pass to Horvath.

Last night game # 3, the reffing was more like playoff hockey, let em play!

Yesterday all games were one goal wins, except for late empty net by Blackhawks, and a few OTs. Insanity. When these games are over, I rarely say to myself that the winner played better than the loser...

U a blues fan Serbone? Honest curious question.

See my thread from early 2019.

I have contacts in the organization that stunned me when they were in last place in the NHL and said The Blues were jelling under Berube, he had taken over and the team transformed from fru fru European style to hard forechecking defensive oriented, and I rode them to the Stanley Cup.

They have 20 of 23 players back from last year, and were #1 in the West until the China virus hit, now they are struggling, G Binnington is of concern.

No play tonight, Blues probably going to be missing several key starters again, though last night they still pounded the Vancouver kids into submission with a very depleted roster.

NBC announcers all acknowledged the NHL is definitely calling an abundance of playoff penalties, unlike any previous years, this hurts the physical Blues and helps the lil Canucks. Though, game #3 the NHL must have sent out a new memo, they did not call chicken shit little penalties, so maybe it will go back to the norm.

If I hear something about the starters, I might put a small play on the Blues... if I see they are letting them play, I might do "in game".

Your better off if the Refs call no penalities...

Blues PP 18%
Blues PK 45%

What are contacts saying this year about the team?

No play.
Allen in goal, Tarasenko Steen & Barbashev (and a few others) all out again tonight.

I think this series is over

Blues have flipped the special teams issues
They have softened up the skilled players . Horvat, Boeser, Miller seem injured
For a brief moment in the third the Canucks got back on the fore check and had some sustained pressure but that was it.

I could see the Blues winning the next two games to move on

Well the physical defensive oriented Blues wore them down, the looks on Horvat & Hughes & Miller's faces mid game were the faces of imminent defeat. Up 3-1 going into the 3rd, The Blues dominated, somehow did not score again, though. Canucks were fast and fresh first game or two, but not anymore.

I had 'em myself because they are still one of the best upper tier teams in hockey, playing a middle tier team, but I cannot advise others to wager with the depleted roster (Tarasenko, Steen, Barbashev, et al) and no Binnington, he is shakey. G Allen is capable of being spectacular, but hard to think Allen will keep it going thru several 7 game series.

To boot, they called a ton (NINE) (that's "9") fruit chicken shit lil penalties on The Blues, that hurts their style a lot. Even the shill announcers were commenting that some should not have been called. This is NOT playoff hockey reffing...

Let me think about Weds but probably will say I lean to The Blues, that's it...

KEY player for The Blues, Vladimir Tarasenko, is leaving Edmonton, back to St. Louis, doctors to examine his left shoulder, the one operated upon... he is done.
