The Jets opened as 1.5 point road favorites against the Redskins and now that line is a 'pick'.

The problem is that the Jets have been decimated by free agent desertions and the front office hasn't replaced them with quality players. By the end of preseason, we should have an indication of how good or bad the Jets will be. I think Herman Edwards is a good coach, but he ain't no miracle worker.
I'll continue to trust the Jets defense, but the offense and special teams are very suspect until preseason is over.

Good luck!

The second problem here is the Redskins - they look like they're going to be better than good - how much better is still to be determined. They've made a lot of impressive free agent moves and cut a few names that opthers may have held onto, such as S. Davis - the 'Skins leading rusher for years. Spurrier will also have that critical first year under his belt and won't make the rookie mistakes he made last year.
The 'Skins also are the cause of most of the Jets biggest free agent desertions - and those guys will want to show the Jets front office how badly they screwed up - lets see Coles, Morton, Hall, and Thomas - a very potent foursome.
Coupls this with the Jets horrible record out of the gate for the last two seasons under Edwards and you can understand why the line has moved - and you can plan on it moving a few more points against the 'Skins before September.

Good luck!

My pick was more against the Skins than on the Jets. Just cause you sign a lot of good players doesnt mean that you will play awesome right off the bat. Just like Jets last year. They had a lot of good additions but werent good till about the halfway point of the season. Ramsey hasnt showed that much yet and they have no good running backs. Spurrier doesnt look like the genius he was in the college ranks. He looked a lot smarter against inferior competition than against the big boys in the NFL

yeah, I'm almost willing to just take Pennington over Ramsy and just cross my fingers.

Jets will be out to prove a point to the Skins that they can beat them even without the talented players the Skins lured away from them.

The skins will definately need time to gel with all the personell changes, and Ramsey has a long way to go. I think a there is more bark than bite with them this year and Spurrier hasn't convinced me that he can coach effectively at this level in this type of atmosphere. A early season fade for maybe the first month.

I'm not trying to come accross like a smart ass, but I don't think it's the public that moved the line - not this early on!

Good luck!

bblight, I was thinking the same thing. But the sharps aren't always right, they bet on too many dogs to pull a %100 percent winning percentage. I'm just an NFL fan, and I feel that taking the skins over the Jets is just purely crazy, but I'm like the public, I like the winners. The Jets are proven winners, the Skins are NOT. And Now they don't even have Stephen Davis. I think Pennington can get it done, even without Coles. A couple of Jets fumbles, the Redskins win, and the sharps will be patting each other on the backs and calling each other geniuses.

It is possible that an early line move like this one may be due to syndicates pushing the line in the direction they really want for value come game time hoping the public jumps on board. It doesn't take a ton of money to move the lines this early especially if it all comes in on one side.

well said tankard, the line movement seen now is from the wiseguys, the books can care less what the public is betting, im sure there is next to nothing of public $$$ out there on these games right now anyway,

2 early plays for opening day without a doubt
are going to be

carolina -3.5 over the jags but that will drop to 3 or less
and
seattle -2.5 over the aints,
could be a third in the cowboys +2 over atlanta
