Day 3 of posting Belmont long shots (13-1-3-2) I'm playing each selection WP only.
Running total (-12.40) - was unable to land a winner yesterday with only a pair of 2nd's. The thing about this strategy of WP betting on long shots is you only need to hit one to make the day profitable. Hitting two guarantees a good day. Looking for two good runs today although the card seems mighty chalky.
Race 2 - #4 SHORE MAGIC (6-1) I have no idea what happened to him in Saratoga. Going to draw a line through that one and feel confident he bounces back in this much easier spot.
Race 4 - #1 BERNING QUESTION (8-1) The #4 horse looks like a beast for C Brown, and will be bet accordingly. This makes for fair prices elsewhere. BQ has every right to improve off his first try where he started poorly and Ortiz just used it as a learning experience.
Race 5 - #11 JEN'S BATTLE (8-1) She's got enough speed to stay close and better late kick than much of her competition. Add Rosario to the mix and the value is there.
Race 6 - #6 SENGEKONTACKET (9-2) Another of many that cost me money at Saratoga. She's been improving her Beyers each race since switching to grass so I'll bite one more time.
Race 7 - #7 RUN SMITTY RUN (20-1) This will be the 4th baby of Mir Cat to start as a 2 yr old. The other three won - and two of those are stakes winners. Then, when you look at the daddy, you could do worse than American Pharoah, right? Works are respectable - if this colt was in the Pletcher or Brown barn he would be 3-1.
Race 8 - #5 LEAP TO GLORY (20-1) I can envision a scenario where the apprentice guns it early and tries to hold on. He may not win, but I'll get a thrill for a couple of furlongs.
Race 9 - #7 CRITICAL VALUE (6-1) Perfect 2 for 2 at Belmont - both ungraded stakes wins. All three lifetime wins have been under Junior.
