Both of these Big 12 teams sit at 3-2 SU on the season, so this week’s game in Austin is essentially a ‘winner-take-all’ to remain viable or relevant in the Conference race. Prior to the last few weeks, the Mountaineers were stuck in neutral when it comes to offense. But they busted out last week against a very good Kansas State defense. In light of the competition, QB Jarrett Doege gave out his BEST performance of the season… going 22 for 34 for 301 yards. That outcome puts the Mountaineers at 33.0 points per game on the season. And they should have a good shot or two to do some major damage against a pretty poor Longhorn pass defense. Last week, Texas surrendered 400 yards and 4 TD’s to an Oklahoma State team that had been previously struggling. Next to doormats Kansas and Texas Tech, the Longhorns have the 3rd worst defense in the entire conference… allowing 32.5 ppg and 407.7 yards per game. So after a slow start, West Virginia has now gone OVER in each of their last three games. And its the average Over / Under MARGIN in those games that has us sitting up and taking notice. Texas can actually gone better. The Longhorns are now 5-1 O/U on the season. Average points per game on offense: 44.3. So the average Texas game has seen a combined 76.8 points per game. With those OVER-whelming results, it sure looks like we are getting some great VALUE when you consider the OU Line in this one is in the mid 50’s. Texas’ offense is more quarterback-driven than any team in the Big 12. They live and die with senior QB Sam Ehlinger. Let’s remember that the Longhorns went into Morgantown last season and cruised to a 43-31 victor (OU Line was 62 / OVER cashed by +12 points). And in the meeting two seasons ago, they went even higher. West Virginia won that one in Austin by the slimmest of margins (42 to 41). In that ‘back-and-forther’, the OU Line was 58 and the OVER cashed by an easy +25 points. The weather report looks perfect for a Big 12 SHOOTOUT in Austin on Saturday (76 degrees / 2 mile per hour WINS / 0% chance of rain). Originally, we projected an OU line of 59 to 62 points in this one. With the number down to 54.5, the value is THERE. Our models and simulations forecast a final score more like this: TEXAS LONGHORNS 34 - WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS 31. That’s more than 10 points higher than the current OU line. And that 10+ point difference trigger a BEST BET for our gameday service.
