Futures

Hurricanes over 70.5 points (-115), 2 units
Bruins over 70.5 (-115), 2 units
Ducks under 53.5 (-110), 2 units

That’s it for my pre-season futures. Usually I would have more action, but I need to see what this season looks like before I place any Stanley Cup or division winnings bets. I had a great postseason last year and I’m hoping to carry that into this season. I will have a play or two for tonight once I get home from work and dig in a little bit more.

Glad to have hockey back. I hope everyone has a profitable season!

Futures

Islanders under 64.5 (-125), 3 units
Predators under 64.5 (-110), 2 units

I forgot to post my favorite future. That’s what happens when you try to do this stuff at work. I also just took the Predators. I was on the line with them, but I’m going to roll with it. This is really it for futures.

I have a couple overs I like, I'm just not sure if I can trust teams to play well offensively.

We will try this total out and see what happens. I like the over in the Oilers game but I don't want to lay big time juice on over 6.

I thought Chicago could scratch out two goals last night. Unfortunately, their offense was anemic. I guess Tampa could have scored 6 goals like Philly did, but that's tough to ask. We have a nice full slate of games tonight including our first back to back of the season. I'm sure I will have some action once I run through everything.

I don't like taking big favorites too often for obvious reasons. I am willing to take the Bruins tonight. I hear people disagreeing with Vegas in terms of how good Boston will be this year. I feel like Vegas has this one right. It is true that Boston's depth isn't proven. But I see a lot of things to like about this team. The goaltending will be good again. I know Pastrnak will be out until the beginning of next month, but I think Studnicka will do just fine playing alongside Bergeron and Marchand in the interim. Boston added Craig Smith who gets a lot of pucks on net and should form a nice 1-2 combo with Coyle on the third line. I expect Kase to look much better playing next to Krecji on the second line now that he has had some time to get comfortable in the Bruins system. People's biggest concern other then depth is their D core. Torey Krug was an elite D man on the power play and it will be hard to replicate his production. However, I think Grzelcyk can do some of the same things Krug did. And I expect McAvoy to finally get an opportunity to show off some more of his offensive game and become a bigger contributor in that area. McAvoy is a very good defenseman and will elevate Lauzon similar to how Chara elevated McAvoy in his early days. Carlo has become a shutdown defenseman and will be paired up with Grzelcyk who is taking Krug's spot on the second D pair. And having Kevan Miller back as a physical shutdown D man on the third pair is exactly what the Bruins need since they will be looking to incorporate another young player to his left.

I am not predicting the Bruins to win a Stanley Cup or win the President's trophy. But they did win the President's trophy last year and aren't exactly devoid of talent. They are very well coached and have some guys in that locker room who will be listening to the national media and carrying a chip on their shoulder based on how people are downplaying their overall talent. I won't be doing big write-ups like this about every team. But I have heard a couple national hockey people question how good Boston is and I find some of it to be unfair or without merit. Also, Krecji and Rask are in contract years. The Bruins are going to need good years from those two and I think they will have some extra motivation as upcoming free agents often do in sports. I know Chara is gone. They will miss him killing penalties and providing a physical presence especially early on in the season. With that being said, they have had young left shot defenseman who haven't been able to crack the lineup. At some point, you have to let the kids play and see what you have. Plus the Bruins have really good leadership in the locker room with guys who have been in the organization for a long time. Chara was a great leader, but Bergeron, Marchand and others will step in seamlessly in that role.

I hope that wasn't too much info for anyone who read that lol. I still have to go through the later games tonight, once I do I will post if there is anything else I like. GL!

Grand Salami over 59.5 goals (-120), 2 units

I do think there is some value on the Sharks to make the playoffs. I know the line was around +200 before the season started. If Karlson is fully healthy and a couple of their players take another step forward in their development, they could edge out the Wild or another team as the 4th playoff team from the west. With that being said, I like Arizona in tonight's matchup.

We saw a ton of goals last night and I expect that to continue in the early part of the season. There are 10 games tonight and I think an average of 6 goals per game is very doable.

Yesterday 2-2/YTD: 3-3, -.6 units

Two games went to a shootout and I split them. Overtime and shootouts are a crapshoot in the NHL which is why you always prefer to avoid them when betting a side. Tomorrow, we are going to see a bunch of teams playing each other for the second time in a row. I am interested to see how the totals look in these rematches as well as if the team who lost the first game bounces back. We saw that tonight with Edmonton getting one back from Vancouver.

I'm going to try this matchup again. Maybe I will look foolish, but it won't be the first time. GL.

I lean under in the Bruins game. Blackwood played great for the Devils on Thursday shutting down the Bruins during 5 on 5 play. On the Bruins side, Halak is in net and should perform pretty well against this Devils team. NJ has a lot to figure out on offense. They weren't invited to the bubble which set them back a little bit in terms of cohesion. You add no preseason on top of that and I expect their offense to start slow. Maybe I will play it in the next half hour or so.

Penguins ML (-125), 2 units

Seems like a good spot for Pitt to pick up their first win. They certainly don't want to fall to 0-3. If Washington is beating them to pucks early and winning the 50/50 battles, the Penguins are probably going to be in trouble. I'm choosing to believe that won't happen and Pittsburgh will remove that zero from their win column.
