not a good hire but still a massive upgrade over the guy that supposedly turned them down, James Franklin. Heupel going from prepping for Uconn, Temple, and ECU to now facing Saban, Kirby, and Mullen every year. should work out fine...

^ Should work out fine for Saban, Kirby, and Mullen for giving their 2nd and 3rd stringers plenty of snaps in 4th quarters of games when they're up by 5 touchdowns!!

Terrible hire. SC and TN, now the laughing stock of the SEC. can’t count Vandy, they’re known for their academics more anyways...

TN had a chance to save grace when they showed Pruitt and Fulmer the door, but they failed miserably...

There was no true coaching search, just like at SC, it was here, you got the job...

god stuff from Clay Travis:

Paying millions of dollars for a brand new AD — who conducts a “search” — and then hires the coach at his old school is like going to prom with your cousin. Which makes Josh Heupel the perfect hire for Tennessee.

What kind of contract did Tennessee give Heupel?

Wasn't he pulling down around $3 million with UCF?

Hey, long time....Hope you have been feeling better

Heupel now getting 4 mil a year with Tenn
Was getting 2.3 mil a year at UCF

The buyout on this contract from UCF is anywhere from 6 mil - 7.5 mil

UCF fans are happy about this as we thought he'd get fired next year and we'd have to pay out his contract

My 1st choice is Jeff Lebby from Ole Miss

UCF would be crazy to not give Jamey Chadwell from Coastal Carolina a really hard look and at least a serious interview. Not only can/will he bring his entire well molded staff with him, he'll also bring Grayson McCall, who is only a Sophomore and truly a damn good little QB. Chadwell did just sign a 7 year extension, but it doesn't matter, it's only for $300k a year, so he could be scooped up for about the same as they were already paying...

If your goal is an innovative Offense who's team play motivated and as a total bunch, you bring in this guy. SC and TN royally screwed up big time by not interviewing him at all (especially SC), and they're gonna end up paying for that mistake...

This was a lazy hire for sure. Not quite the Stricklin hiring Mullen from MSU hire, but similar - doesn't seem much effort went into it (he gets shot down a couple of times then runs to his fallback guy). I think UT should have gone w/ Steele for one year, like OSU did w/ Fickel in their transition year between Tressell and Meyer.

Chadwell would be a great hire for UCF, but I think Chadwell sits tight for a year and ends up at a P5 making 50% or more than UCF is going to pay him.

I'm really surprised to hear UCF fans didn't like Heupel - not that I thought he was the next Saban or anything, but he's won 28 games in 3 years, including a covid year. He won more games in two years than Frost did (I know Frost took over a 0-12 team). The 6-4 covid year is a wash. Plus Heupel lost the all-star QB to injury and had to throw in a new starter. I think he did an admirable job...or UCF fans expectations are too high?

Chadwell would be a good hire but how long does he last at UCF before P5 comes knocking on the door? I would love to have a coach who is going to be there for a while but its almost impossible to be 1 of the best G5 schools and have the coach stay for a while

UCF has a younger fan base who never really watched college football before coming to UCF. They have a hard time comprehending why a coach would leave to go to a bigger school (Frost) and blah blah blah. We think we should be undefeated every year and blah blah blah.

I didnt mind Heupel but it seems like the team has regressed since he got there. KZ going down at the end of his first year b/c when healthy, this QB truly was a game changer (i know some will laugh at that statement but if you have watched him play, he was a special college qb).

In 2019, we blew 3 games in the 4th quarter to Pitt, Tulsa, and Cincy. We were favored in all 3 games and we blew it
In 2020 we blew a 4h quarter game at home vs Tulsa and a BAD one vs Memphis. (Losing to cincy or getting blown at in bowl game didnt bother me)

The team also looked undisciplined in those losses.

When Frost left UCF, he was on his way "up".
I feel like Heupel is on his way "down". Needless to say that i am SHOCKED that a blueblood SEC school hired him.

Now regarding AD Danny White, i LOVE the guy. I truly HATE to see him leave

Tennessee, South Carolina, Vanderbilt will all have losing seasons during 2021. Auburn should break .500.

It's hard for a new coach to turn around a losing program their first season.

Well, I thought Tennessee would grab him, and they should have!!

Teams are missing out not going after UAB's Bill Clark. The guy ain't nothing but a winner. As a head coach he was
106-11 in high school. 11-4 his one year at Jacksonville State and now 40-22 at UAB.

Auburn showed some interest where he had a couple of interviews. Once he told them he wanted "complete control"
of his coaching staff the Tiger brass cooled on him.

He's in his 50s and makes $500,000 a season with UAB. He deserves a shot at a big time school in my opinion.

he keeps turning jobs or interviews down

auburn wanted him but he refused to keep kevin steele as DC so he exited the interview process. ironically they hire the Boise guy and he also refused to keep steele so they cut him loose.

a couple years back he interviewed at WVU and they went with Brown.

Totally agree he's ready for a Power 5 job but he is being pretty picky for a guy that can quadruple his base salary overnight

Clark is certainly somebody a UCF could pull (a sitting D1 head coach), unless he's shooting for a P5 job as well. He'd get a huge raise going to UCF.

Chadwell is on his way to a P5, so there's no sense in pursing him as he'd be gone within a couple of years.

I agree with this one, too. He’d been a great fit at Tenn or SC as well, and both he and Chadwell are way better options than what both schools decided on. Neither school even interviewed outstanding candidates, it’s a pathetic job all around...

And now rumor has it Malzahn to UCF (or UCF has an offer to him)

UCF got a new AD this week from Arkansas State. Gus was at Ark State.

looks like UCF traded Heupel for Gus.

This is a good hire. Gus' offense will work in the G5. Also, at his age he likely stays there the rest of his career (vs. hoping to a bigger job).
