5% [CBB] (797) Florida Intl at (798) Western Kentucky

Time: 3:00 PM EST Western Kentucky -16.0 (-110)
Analysis: The Hilltoppers took their shot at taking down a heavyweight and got squashed in the second half at Houston on Thursday night, so we’ll see how a slice of humble pie affects them. I don't see any hangover coming, particularly since they played a pretty solid opening half before being out-classed and come in healthy and with fresh legs, having played only once since going on a COVID hiatus following an 89-66 rout of Rice on Feb. 13. For FIU, standout playmaker Antonio Daye entered the transfer portal on Thursday after playing 22 games in his junior season, concluding an excellent 87-game career in Miami. He’s already been in touch with Arkansas. Rick Stansbury is looking to see his team respond positively with a heightened sense of urgency and should be able to take apart an FIU squad that is going to struggle without its leader. The Panthers have posted a number of puzzling results in which they have failed to get started or can be accused of quitting, which includes an 85-72 loss to a terrible Southern Miss squad last time out on Feb. 19 in South Florida in which they were outscored 48-29 in the second half. With Daye on board, FIU has lost by double-digits at Middle Tennessee, 107-63 at rival Florida Atlantic, a pair of home setbacks against Marshall by a combined 30 points and a 90-47 home defeat against Texas-San Antonio just three weeks ago. Jeremy Ballard's team has lost 12 consecutive games against D-I competition and have no shot against a Hilltoppers squad led by two pros in center Charles Bassey and guard Taveion Hollingsworth that will be playing at home, where they've lost just once all season. Lay the 16 points and expect a rocking chair 5% winner here.

Feb 28 Tony Mejia 3% [CBB] (803) Iowa at (804) Ohio State

Time: 4:00 PM EST Ohio State -3.0 (-110)
Analysis: The Hawkeyes look to avoid dropping consecutive games for the third time this season as they aim to gain a split against a Buckeyes team that came into Iowa City on Feb. 4 and pulled out an 89-85 win. Only Gonzaga and Minnesota have scored more points against Iowa this season. A balanced effort led Ohio State to a road win as it matched Iowa by shooting 14-for-32 from beyond the arc. If both shoot nearly 44 percent from 3-point range in Columbus, a total that has been set a 159 should be eclipsed with both teams again topping the 80-point mark. Ohio State comes off one of its lowest-scoring games of the season, failing to reach at least 70 points for only the fourth time in a 71-67 setback at Michigan State in which it failed to get much help from the whistle down the stretch but also conspired in its own demise by missing makeable shots. Gritty Buckeyes forward Kyle Young will be a game-time decision after missing the loss in East Lansing due to a concussion. With the Wolverines having wrapped up first place in the Big Ten and Illinois looking like it will likely hang on to second despite the absence of star point guard Ayo Dosunmu, the winner of this matchup will have the inside track on third place in the nation’s toughest conference and will therefore be well-positioned to hear their name called as a No. 2 seed come Selection Sunday. The scoring output Iowa managed in Thursday’s 79-57 loss at Michigan was its lowest in nearly two years. Jack Nunge's absence will force them to go smaller, but ultimately, that favors the Buckeyes. Considering Iowa ranks fourth in the nation with 85.2 points and Ohio State comes in 45th with an average of 78.0 per game, expect both teams to rebound and eclipse the 80-point mark in a high-scoring game the Buckeyes ultimately pull away to win. Back the over as a 4% total. Ride Ohio State as a 3% side.

Feb 28 Tony Mejia 3% [CBB] (799) Charlotte U at (800) UTEP

Time: 3:00 PM EST UTEP -6.0 (-110)
Analysis: The Miners led the 49ers 16-13 at a media timeout six minutes into Saturday’s first matchup between the schools and then turned into the rudest of hosts, outscoring their guests 19-5 the rest of the half before scoring 10 of the second half’s first 12 points in posting another huge run en route to a 70-47 rout. Charlotte operates at the 20th-slowest pace in the nation and has had instances where it failed to show up before, namely in a 61-37 home loss to UAB on Jan. 15 that it followed up with an victory and in its last contest before this one where it fell 64-45 at Old Dominion prior to a nearly two-week COVID hiatus. A small sample size suggests that Ron Sanchez will have his Niners much better-equipped to compete in this rematch since they’re 4-2 on the second leg of these Conference USA two-game series, but they must improve on 4-for-18 3-point shooting to keep UTEP from simply sending extra bodies at star guard Jahmir Young. A scary proposition for the visitors in that the Miners shot just 6-for-24 from beyond the arc in Saturday’s blowout win, pulling away by scoring 24 points off Charlotte’s 17 turnovers. UTEP utilized a 31-4 run over two halves to coast and overcame the fact top forward Bryson Williams played just five first-half minutes. Williams will be honored in Sunday’s “Senior Day” festivities and the Miners should again impose their will provided they avoid a second straight poor shooting day. Play on UTEP

Feb 28 Tony Mejia 3% [CBB] (791) Villanova at (792) Butler

Time: 12:00 PM EST Total Over 130.5 (-119)
Analysis: The Bulldogs will be able to count on ETSU transfer Bo Hodges for this one, which gives them a catalyst to at least try and save face as they square off with the Wildcats. Jay Wright's team can wrap up the Big East regular-title with a win after getting help from Xavier against Creighton last night and will be looking for their third conquest in a row after being taken down by the Blue Jays a few weeks ago. Given what we saw against St. John’s, the Wildcats' claws are sharpened as we head into March. Ride Villanova -11.5 and the over as 3% plays.
