NEW YORK -- Gerrit Cole shook his head, disgusted. Aaron Hicks put hands on hips and bowed his head. By the end of the afternoon, pretty much all of the New York Yankees were appalled, along with their loudly booing fans.

Yoshi Tsutsugo hit a tiebreaking double off Cole in the seventh inning that lifted the Tampa Bay Raysto a 4-2 win on Sunday and a three-game sweep that extended the Yankees' losing streak to five games. New York fell to an American League-worst 5-10, its poorest start since 1997.
"I'm frustrated, personally frustrated," said reigning AL batting champion DJ LeMahieu, who concluded the Yankees were "tight and pressing."
"No one's going to feel sorry for us," he said. "No one's going to throw softer or throw easier for us. We've got to find it within ourselves to continue to get better and play the way we're capable of."
Opener Andrew Kittredge, Ryan Yarbrough (1-2), Diego Castillo and Jeffrey Springs (first big league save) combined on the Rays' second three-hitter of a series in which New York managed 11 hits in all. Tampa Bay outscored the Yankees 17-7, and New York pushed across just three runs other than on homers.

No one cares about sport’s threads anymore maybe this room should be the political forum and move sports talk to the basement. It’s a long season they will come around last year I was hoping for a Yankees Dodgers World Series for nostalgic reasons but maybe this year but not looking like it thus far.

I think that's a great idea switch the locations of the forums. Everything here is politics so why not until the new owners come in.

As far as the Yankees go sorry they're not championship caliber. This team is poorly constructed. Starting pitching is suspect, defense is horrible, not hitting their HRs dooms this offense which is challenged without those. There are holes on the roster and finally some of these guys are finally getting exposed.

The AL East will be won with close to 100 games and the 2021 Yankees will struggle to reach even 88...They will be eliminated by early Sept and fall short of WC with 10 to 14 days still left in season

In short, they blow chipmunk

Could be, last year they made the post season only because of the expanded playoff spots.

G Cole = M Scherzer.....Yankees offense no more intimidating than Washington and the rest of the NY pitching staff is a monkey fest

Neither team will see October baseball

Season is still young and the WC spots always in play for most teams. I like the Nats roster better and now that you have Schwarber and Josh Bell back I expect they'll do better. Although they play in a very tough division.

Reminder that the Yankees passed on Bryce Harper so they could lock up Aaron Hicks in a seven year deal

Thru first 17 games, Yankees $40m trio of Chapman, Britton & Kluber have combined for 20 IP and 33 baserunners allowed

No sir, the Yanks passed on Harper because of their commitment to Stanton and his 10 years and 300 million plus they have a surplus of OFs. Stanton also has a no trade clause so he's got the Yanks arms tied. Hicks 7 year deal is not overwhelming. Chapman and Britton have produced and done very well for their pen. Britton is injured now he'll be back. And they didn't throw crazy money at Kluber. Low risk high reward with him.

simply pointing out what they've received so far in 2021 from that $40m trio

Bonus stat: The highest paid 37 year old position player in MLB at $10m has muscled up four runs and a single RBI

The man who should be replaced is Cashman...he has completely failed over past decade and is clueless on how to build a winning ML roster in the 2020s

Yes Cashman is doing an awful job. No vision for a creative trade everything is analytics with him. Doesn't use his eyes just stats 100% of the time. And thank you for talking sports on this side of the Rx, what a novelty! Hope we don't get banned.

Difficult to make a creative trade when the MiL system is bereft of emerging talent

And that is a consequence of spending a decade overpaying MLers and underfunding international and domestic yutes

Sadly, their best shot to again be relevant is to do what Hou did after 2012; what Boston did after 2013; what the Rays did after 2014. That is, swallow two to three years of non-contending ML seasons and build a deep MiL

Not much chance of that under Cashman but the overwhelming reality likely forces it regardless

I don't think the Yankees are in that dire of a situation. They still can have a good year and make a WC but I just don't think they're championship caliber. They did have top 3 MiL for a few years 2017-2019 but the cupboard is rather bare nowadays. The Yanks in 2016 replenished their minor league system to be top contenders in the AL but lost out to better teams Bosox and Rays and the cheating *Astros.

Tigers sweep??

Detroit posted six runs against the Yankees, while the Yanks’ bats continued to be as menacing as milk. The 6-1 loss was the fourth in five games for the Yankees, and they now face the prospect of being swept by the AL Central cellar-dwelling Tigers tomorrow afternoon.
