Poor Saku Koivu

He's 26 yrs old. He has the world ahead of him. He's got a rich contract. He's the best player on the Montreal Canadiens. He is the captain of the Montreal Canadiens. He is a hero back home in Finland. He came to Montreal a few days ago to start his season. As soon as he arrives, he feels stomach pains. He goes to the hospital only to find out his life changes completely. He now has a serious cancer and he might die. Wow! That's sad. Look how life changes. He had everything and now he might die. Life sucks.!

Well I didn't know this hockey forum was so dead. So I'll comment on my own post.

Saku Koivu looks like the odds are very much against him. They said today he has pancreatic cancer and I know for a fact that pancreatic cancer is unbeatable. My dad died from it and it is a deadly cancer. Poor guy. Doctors gave him a few months. He's 26 and makes millions and is the captain of the Canadiens. Also the best player on the team. Life sucks. It really does. One moment he's on top of the world. Next minute, he's dying. We live in hell folks. Plus the WTC disaster. What kind of world are we living in? FU*k this hell we live in.

i sympathize w/saku but cant feel sorry for him. ive spent some time in childrens hospitals and VA hospital and know many kids would have given anything just to be able to SKATE once, never mind fulfilling a childhood dream for at least a few years.
lets not forget that he (and family) wont have to worry about medical bills, unlike some of the less fortunate.

I understand Bob, but think of what it's like to be so happy one day and on top of the world and the next day you know that it's a matter of days or months that you are going to die and leave it all. You watch all your buddies on tv scoring goals and at the same time you are suffering in pain only to know that you are going to die, when at one time you were with these teammates enjoying life. Last week, it was great to be Koivu. Famous, celebrity back home, superstar, rich and captain of Montreal Canadiens. Today, he's waiting to die, as it has all ended. This is a very bad way to go. Poor guy. There's nothing worse in life than knowing you're going to die, nothing. If I was him, I would be continuously saying, WHY ME?

important to live each day to the fullest. I've had a number of relatives and acquaintances who have died soon after retiring from their job which I think is just so sad. I hope everything can work out for Saku. Also, as a longtime hockey fan I was sad to learn Ace Bailey the old Bruin / Oiler in the WHA was on one of the hijacked planes along with Mark Bavis who played at Boston U a few years ago. Both were scouts for the Kings.
