Steam is caused by huge amounts of many all being bet at approximately the same time at many books causing line movements. The easiest way to bet steam is to sign up for a line service such as Don Best or G&J. These services will actually tell you what the steam plays are. The trick is to find a book that moves it's line slow so that you get bet the line before it moves. If you don't have a line service then you can watch line moves at a book such as Pinnacle. Some people like to bet steam plays while others actually like to bet the other way after a play has steamed. GL

Steam plays made their run already. In 1998 steam ruled and lines moved every which way and you made money left and right. The steam had a better record with UNDER/OVERS than sides.Steam was the best kept secret even in the early '90s.Steam was formed by a guy from Atlantic City that had a gang and it was a gang that pounded games.By 2001 and 2002 steam became all fizzled out as the win percentage dropped. The steam plays never played both sides until 3 years ago.

As for today, I can say steam this!

line moves of 1.5 points or more on TOTALS in the NBA and NFL are $$$, even after the move in the EARLY part of each season. I only pay attention to these for the first one-fourth to one-half of each season, when it is a really bad idea to go against them. After that there are other reasons for line moves (injuries, weather) and books are more apt to move on air, so blindly following them is not as profitable after a few weeks.

it's important to know what the opening number is in order to know how much the line has moved.

for opening numbers the best source is a book such as Olympic that is one of the first to come out with lines. A good habit to get into is to jot down all the lines as soon as they come out. If that option is not available, odds comparison sites such as donbest show opening numbers. I feel it is necessary to mention that wagerline's numbers are not very accurate, and opening numbers will vary from book to book as the oddsmakers often have different opinions just as gamblers do.
