We're going for the MLB version of Groundhog Day and expect the surging Arizona Diamondbacks to once again take care of the slumping San Diego Padres.

Arizona has won 21 of their last 27 overall following 9-1 and 6-0 routs in the first two games of this series. At 54-42 (.563) they are five games behind the San Francisco Giants and have done an outstanding job in covering numerous injuries including Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson who have spent most of the season on the disabled list.

Right-hander Brandon Webb looks to continue his outstanding rookie season tonight. The 24 year-old Kentucky native is a very impressive 7-2, 2.41 ERA thus far and it's no surprise that Arizona have won 11 of his 14 starts at a sensational .786 clip. He ranks second in the NL in WHIP (1.04) and winning percentage (.778), third in ERA (2.41) and fifth in batting average against (.214). Outstanding numbers for any pitcher let alone a rookie. Webb hasn't lost since June 13 when he gave up three runs on six hits through six innings of work against the Twins. Since that loss he has won on the road against the Rockies (no small feat) and Tigers and at home against the Rockies and Giants.

Steve Finley has terrorized his former team this year, hitting .514 (19-of-37) with four homers and 12 RBI. Bob Brenly will once again be absent but as predicted last night this will have no bearing on the final result.

The last-placed Padres have lost five straight to drop back to 35-63 (.357) overall. They are just 5-17 recently against the Diamondbacks and an embarrassing 18-31 at home this season.

Adam Eaton has the onerous task of countering for San Diego. Overall this season he is 4-7 with a 4.21 ERA while the Padres are just 6-12 (.333) when he starts. He was ejected in the first inning Sunday for hitting Albert Pujols in the back with a pitch. In Eaton's most recent start against the Diamondbacks he gave up six earned runs in six innings of an 8-4 road loss.

Our numbers show Arizona's true odds in tonight's match-up to be almost -200 so to get them laying -155 offers excellent value.

We'll go with the better pitcher, team and recent form tonight.

Recommended Play: Diamondbacks -155

Good luck

Mike
