OVERALL RX MLB RECORD: 33-16, +40.25 UNITS

Wednesday afternoon MLB:

Toronto @ Tampa Bay 2:15 PM EST

Tampa Bay +200 over Toronto (4 Units)

It's really pretty amazing how little respect the Devil Rays still get... obviously years of being the league doormat has ingrained in the public mindset that Tampa Bay is a synonym for pathetic... however, the times they are a-changin', and Lou Piniella has started to work his magic with a Tampa Bay squad that has been a doormat since the start of their existence... after starting the season a miserable 25-53, the D'Rays have now won 18 of their last 33 games... meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays team that had everyone all fired up a few months ago has landed with quite a thud in the mediocrity column, dropping 23 of their last 33 games to fall under the .500 mark... overall, Toronto happens to have a 12 game lead on Tampa Bay, but considering that the difference between these two teams was once 20 games, we now have a TB squad that is eight games better than the Jays over the last month and a half... and yet, here is Tampa, at home, getting 2 to 1 odds...

Not only we dealing with a false favorite in the free-falling Jays, but we are also dealing with a Toronto team that is just ABYSMAL against the Devil Rays, dropping six straight contests to Tampa and a whopping 12 of the last 15 matchups between these squads, including eight of their last ten games in Tampa... Offense has been the catalyst for the D'Rays streak against Toronto, as the youngsters have scored 5+ runs in each of their last eight games against the Jays, averaging just a shade under NINE runs per game in that span... and with Tampa on a scoring binge in general (53 runs in their last 8 games, including 5+ runs in seven of those games), things look a little troublesome for Toronto starter Roy Halladay, who is coming off his first loss in months...

Halladay has allowed 20 runs (17 earned) in 28.1 innings against Tampa Bay, including giving up 4+ runs in each of his last two starts in Tampa (and a total of 9 runs in 13.1 innings in a set of losses)... toss in the fact that Halladay has now allowed at least four runs in two of his last three starts overall, and we have a difficult time understanding how anyone can support Doc Halladay at this line... a wager on the Jays becomes even riskier when we look at Joe Kennedy's track record against Toronto, as the lefthander has allowed three runs or less in each of his last four starts against the Jays, with the Devil Rays winning all four contests... during that span, Kennedy owns a very strong 2.77 ERA - and while Kennedy has struggled immensely during this 2003 campaign, there is something to be said for having a team's number, as seems to be the case for Kennedy and the Devil Rays... that number includes Toronto owning just a .190 average against Kennedy, with the team's top two hitters (Delgado and Wells) a combined 7 for 50 (.140) in their careers against Kennedy... with the deck stacked in our favor in regards to the payback on a Tampa wager, we have little choice but to back the Devil Rays yet again...

FINAL PREDICTION: TAMPA BAY 5, TORONTO 3
