The Atlanta Braves go for their fourth straight win tonight when they open a four-game set against the New York Mets.
Atlanta are 32-19 against the Mets the last three seasons including 17-9 at home and we believe tonight's match-up warrants a play on the -1.5 run-line.
The Braves own the best record in baseball at 84-46 (.646) and have been especially dominant at home going 45-19 (.703). They are fresh off a highly impressive clean sweep of the Colorado Rockies in which they outscored them 26-13. Prior to that series Colorado boasted the third best home mark in baseball at 44-19 so to sweep them at home and outscore the Rockies two-to-one is a sure sign that they are playing exceptionally well right now. Obviously the three one-run losses to the Barry Bonds inspired Giants sparked them into action and we look for Atlanta to continue the hot hitting tonight. This season the Braves are hitting .290 at home and averaging 5.7 runs per game while the Mets are hitting just .249 on the road and averaging just 4.4 runs per game.
Shane Reynolds (10-6, 5.18 ERA) heads to the hill and he is 5-2 in his last eight starts with all five of those wins being by at least two runs. The Braves always seem to give him excellent run support and are 15-8, +4.9 units this season when he starts.
The Mets are in last place in the NL East at just 57-72 (.442) overall, a whopping 26 1/2 games behind the Braves. They have improved recently to go 7-3 their last ten games but still have a poor road record at 28-37.
Jae Seo (7-8, 4.20 ERA) gets the start for the Mets as he looks to climb back to a .500 record. He has won his last two starts following a stretch of six straight losses.
Atlanta are an exceptionally profitable 44-14 (+22 units) at home this season against teams with losing records and with their prolific offense we expect them to be far too strong for the Mets tonight.
