In support of the ongoing commitment from Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association to increase youth participation in baseball, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund awarded $56,000 to the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School in Gurabo, PR. The grant was used for the renovation of a baseball field at the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School located at the University of Turabo. The new field will be utilized by the more than 100 boys, ages 14-18, currently enrolled at the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School.

Cathy Bradley, Executive Director of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the new field at the University of Turabo on Tuesday, September 9 at 10:30 a.m. (EDT). Dignitaries joining Bradley at the ceremony include: Jose Rivera, Mayor of Gurabo; Dennis Alicea, president of the University of Turabo; Edwin Correa, president and chief executive officer, Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School; Tony Bernazard, special assistant, Major League Baseball Players Association; and Louis Melendez, Vice President of International Baseball Operations, Major League Baseball.

In addition to the Baseball Tomorrow Fund grant, Major League Baseball contributed $100,000 toward the operation of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School.

The Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School is a non-profit organization that offers a high school academic curriculum and a sports program specializing in the diverse skills and roles in the science of baseball. This unique organization is the first of its kind in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

The Baseball Tomorrow Fund, a joint initiative between the Major League Baseball Players Association and Major League Baseball, is designed to promote and enhance the growth of baseball throughout the world by funding programs, field improvements and equipment purchases to encourage and maintain youth participation in baseball and softball.

Since its inception in October 1999, Baseball Tomorrow Fund awards have totaled more than $5 million and have benefited more than 60,000 kids participating in 100 youth baseball and softball programs across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Europe.
