Minny -155 Pinnacle
Santana vs Davis

One criteria I have for betting a team is I want them to need to win. Nothing is worse than betting a team to see them out not giving a damn if they win or not. This time of the year there are some teams just playing out the string. No one needs to win more than the Twins. Tomorrow with the best pitcher they have and playing the Indians they simply must win these games. They must find a way. For what it's worth Santana has done more than his part. He's 10-3 with a 3.03 ERA. He has pitched over 142 innings and only given up 117 hits, part of the reason his 1.10 WHIP is so strong. He's also won his last 6 decisions and sports a 2-0 career mark against the Tribe, a team that struggles even more so when facng lefties. Another thing that sets up well for us is he has done very well on the road too. Almost like he prefers it out of the dome since he is a flyball pitcher.

Cleveland/Minnnesota U8 -102
Davis vs Santana

Cleveland is a tough team when Davis pitches so this game will not be a cake walk. In fact I am playing the under as well because we have two solid pitchers on the hill (read about Santana above). Davis is 0-2 against the Twins but has pitched well in both games, in his last 3 outings overall he's got an ERA of 2! I expect to see a low scoring game, just hope the Twins superiority in the pen will make the difference if need be. Good luck.

Motivation is a great indicator of whether a team will win. I like your reasoning.

Will you be taking Minny on a regular basis using this same reasoning?

No not at all Big. Just because they are motivated is not enough in itself to put me on them, being unmotivated is sure enough to keep me off a team though. Not sure if that made sense.

Bsically motivation is only step one. In this game I also like Santana. I liked his success on the road, against Cleveland, and the fact the Tribe prefer to hit righties rather than lefties. Other stuff has to to be there besides just motivation but without that I don't even go any further. When I look at baseball this time of year I mark the games where one of the teams is in a race to make the play-offs and go from there. I don't even look at the other games. You got kids up getting their first look at the bigs since the rosters have been expanded. If a team is 40 games out they are going to play more than a team in a pennant race. Just my two cents on all this.

Anyway we were right on the Twins but lost the under so we broke even.

Makes perfect sense Pat.

Your mention of the kids coming up for the first time tends to get me to bet against the cellar dwellers. I don't use that criteria of itself. I look at how they've been scoring lately as well (or rather, their lack of scoring).

Good luck today.
