The Montreal Expos continue their series against the New York Mets tonight and we're forecasting another low-scoring contest. We played the Under last night as the Expos won 1-0 and see no reason to jump off tonight.
The Expos are 78-76 overall this season and still have a very slim mathematical chance of winning the NL wildcard race. 62% of Montreal's road games this season have stayed Under.
The disappointing Mets have lost six straight to drop back to 63-89 overall. They have scored a total of just three runs in their last four games and are hitting an embarrassing .173 their last ten starts against right-handers. The Mets could manage just three hits last night and struck out 14 times.
Zach Day (8-7, 3.98 ERA) heads to the hill for the Expos. He snapped a three game losing streak in his last outing when he shut down the Mets Sunday, allowing two earned runs in seven solid innings. In two career starts against the Mets he is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA. The Under is 8-1 in Day's road starts this year.
Veteran Tom Glavine (9-13, 4.49 ERA) counters for the Mets. While his record at Shea Stadium has been disappointing this season he has shown signs of improvement recently. In his last three home starts he has pitched at least six innings and allowed a total of just five earned runs. We expect the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner to be able to do a reasonable job tonight against an Expos line-up that hasn't been nearly as effective recently against southpaw starters, hitting just .245 compared to .278 against righties. Glavine is 12-6 lifetime against the Expos with a 3.53 ERA.
These teams have played 24 times at Shea Stadium the last three seasons and the Under is 16-8...expect another pitcher's duel tonight.
