Will the Tigers be this bad next year?

While visiting friends in the Upper Midwest I had the chance to see the Twins sweep the Tigers (damn it's cold up here, even this time of year). I was listening to the announcer talk about why the Tigers were so bad. He mentioned something about the Tigers farm system being weak and compared it to Baltimore's weak teams of years past. The Tigers don't have the quality people to bring up to help them improve.

I don't know if they will lose 120 games next year but I can't see them improving significantly. Anyone else have any thoughts about this?

Being from here I have the displeasure of seeing them on a daily basis. I said before the season started that they were the worst team I had ever seen, and they have exceeded my expectations.

The reason their farm system is so weak is because most of their players would be in AA or AAA on most teams.

I expect them to definitely be better, as Bonderman figures to improve, as should many of the other younger guys such as Santiago, Torres, German, Inge, and Pena.

That being said, without some significant free agent acquisitions, and I mean significant, they have no hope of winning more than 60-65 games next year.

They could even conceivably be worse if they jettison some of their more expensive players like Young or Higginson. But at least in Higgy's case, it's something they need to do in order to get better later on. Sort of an addition by subtraction.
