We're going to recommend the Under tonight as the anemic New York Mets continue their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Mets have struggled mightily to get anything going offensively since Cliff Lloyd and Jose Reyes suffered season-ending injuries, scoring just 26 runs in their last 14 games...a dreadful average of just 1.9 runs per game.
Overall this season the Mets are in last place in the NL East at 63-92 (.406). They had lost eight straight and 16 of 17 before beating the Pirates 1-0 last night.
Steve Trachsel (15-10, 3.81 ERA) goes for a career high 16th victory tonight and a win would also ensure that he can do no worse than tie for the most victories this season amongst the Mets starters. Trachsel is 2-2 with a 2.17 ERA in September and boasts a stellar 22 strike-out's to just 6 walks during this stretch. Lifetime against the Pirates he is just 2-4 but more relevant for our Under play tonight is his excellent ERA of just 2.63 in those eight starts.
The Pirates 73-83 record this season has them in fourth place in the NL Central. In their last four road series they are averaging less than 3 runs per game.
Jeff Damico (9-15, 4.65 ERA) heads to the hill for the Pirates and while we wouldn't normally recommend many Unders with him on the mound tonight is a special situation with the Mets struggling against almost everyone. Another factor in our favor tonight is that Damico is 0-1 with a tiny 1.38 ERA in two career starts against the Mets.
The Under is 7-1-2 in the last ten meetings and we expect another low scoring game tonight.
