I'll say it again as I've said it like a broken record all season long....Kerry Wood is an over-rated pitcher. He is good...but not great. Every time I here someone on Baseball Tonight or some other sports show talk about how great he is I question everything else they say.

Kerry Wood will never be a "great" pitcher until he learns how to control his emotions and stops walking people, along with giving up the long ball. Those so called experts never talk about how pissed Wood will get and act like a two year old in the dugout while throwing a temper tantrum. They will tell you how many strikeouts he has and how great he is. This is bullsh*t...If he is so great as all the experts say he is why has he struggled so much and not found a way to pitch himself out of those innings he gets himself into trouble?

Great pitchers find ways to get out of trouble. They do this by having some self-control. Thsi is something that Wood lacks right now. Until he grows up he is going always reman a "good" pitcher and not a "great" pitcher. Look at the difference between Wood and Prior. I think Wood is older than Prior however Mark seems so cool, calm, and collective in pressure situations compared to how Wood reacts.

I think Kerry could learn some things from Prior. I think Prior learned about some things about life by going to college. I think it's that college experence that Prior has where he learned things about life that has contributed to his acting the way he carries himself now. Kerry Wood did not go to college. He came straight up through the Cubs system. I'm sure nobody in that system took Kerry aside and helped him with life skills.

Kerry could learn some things from Prior. He needs to do that so he can get to the next level and be "great". In closing I'll just say that the Cubs do need him to win (something he has had trouble with) every time he takes the hill if they are going to win the Central. However he is too shakey for me at the price of -260...even if he is up against a Minor League Reds team. I can only imagen how he will react if he gets hit early and the Reds get a couple of runs. If you watch the game today, watch how Wood reacts when he gets into trouble. I always LMAO! Good Luck Guys, Stalker-Dude.

Stalker-Dude: Your analysis of Kerry Wood is right on. He has a ton of talent but he doesn't know how to pitch. He throws way too many pitches and won't challenge hitters like he should. I've constantly watched .225 Punch and Judy hitters make him throw a dozen pitches to get them out. That's why he ends up throwing 113 pitches thru 6 inning and then has to turn the game over to that gashouse bullpen.

maybe this is more of a ANTI CUB bullpen thread, if he was on the yankees back when they had rivera then wetteland he'd be a 20 game winner cy young candidate hes had 4 outtings, STRUCK OUT 39 and gave up 4 runs, find me a better pitcher in his last 4 STARTS. halliday gave up 6 runs on 8/27 bring it on.

lol, the flurry of thoughts on Wood is right. This guy is way too inconsistent to even be mentioned as a "GREAT".

Gimme a break, this guy is riding on his 20k performance, and his ability to lead the pack in the strikeout department.

It's kind of like basketball in a sense. For pitchers, a ground out or a fly ball ain't gonna get you on the highlight reel... but a nice looking strikeout and blowing it by hitters will definitely warrant attention.

Way to go Kerry, you've thrown great in the last 4 starts, and now you're the best in the league.

LMAO.... so what's the barometer for succes in the majors now? Looking at your recent performances? Yikes... scary stuff.

Gotta like the Reds today, +220 is to much to pass on, Wood is REAL hit and miss. Missing more times recently than not.

RECENTLY. I POSTED WHAT WOOD DID RECENTLY and as of now it is 5 starts 4 earned runs 33 IP and 48 K's. FASTEST EVER TO 1000 K's includes Mr. RYAN. I'm could use Wood.

THIS WAS ARESPONSE TO A BASELESS CLAIM RECENTLY AND WANTED TO STEER THE BETTERS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WINNER ON FRIDAY ND LOOKING GOOD SO FAR TODAY. I was on the under with 2 teams that usually play under with a total of 9 posted. Who would go over with a pitcher who has been so hot RECENTLY.

To state that Kerry Wood is pitching well lately is an accurate statement. But so is the statement that Wood is a streaky pitcher. In his last 5 starts he has only given up 4 earned runs. In his 6 starts previous to the last 5 he gave up 26 earned runs in 32 innings pitched.
