*Here's a short story from last night* I had a sound gig, working a dance, approx. 250 people. The band was from out of town, 6 people, and the setup was challenging, sound check very involved and so on..... So after about the third tune, the girl playing the keyboard, gets on the vocal mic and out of nowhere says " i just want everyone to know that the Boston Red Sox are beating the Yankees 3-0." Here i am trying to do sound, i was so busy that i had actullay forgot about the game. That really caught me off guard. Actually, it rubbed me the wrong way. I walked over to her and said " i put my $$$ on the Yankees to win tonight" and she said " why did you do that?" Anyway, guess where the band was from, Boston, can you believe that. I took it as a jinx. So i'm sitting there, drinking my beer, doing sound and the band is rooting for Boston. What a combination, my evenings mood changed a little. Then again, out of nowhere, later in the evening, she gets on the mic and says, "i just want everyone to know that the Yankees are not winning", then it was 5-2, bottom of the 8th, 1 out. They were very happy with a little blend of ego mixed in. I kind of tried to block it out. This was not what i wanted to hear. I was thinking, these people don't care about the game but they cheered when she made the announcement. I should of cut her off but i was polite. Well, after the band finished their last tune, i went to my laptop, popped up the score, bottom 9th, Boston 5, Yankees 5. Now, that was for sure unbelievable and then the HR, bottom 11th topped off my evening.
The band had left by then but i will be working with them thoughout the weekend and i believe that i have something that i'd like to say to them. Good Luck and Thanks!!!!!
