New York Yankees

Above all others, this is the one team the rest of the country wants to see fall flat on their face. Truthfully, this hasn?t been all that terrible an offseason for the Bronx Bombers. They traded for one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball (Javier Vasquez), signed a power-hitting outfielder in Gary Sheffield, and replaced one really-old righty (Roger Clemens) with a slightly-less old righty (Kevin Brown). Plus, I hear they may ink Garrett Stephenson to a minor-league deal. Garrett Stephenson! They are sure to beat the Red Sox now!

These moves were all positive, but all anyone in New York wants to talk about these days (I can hear them, I live only 90 miles away) is how they lost Andy Pettite and how Roger Clemens screwed them.

Ummmm, fraid not. First of all, while Pettite is a good pitcher, his value was inflated some due to the run support he was privy to in New York. Javier Vasquez is a better pitcher, and he is younger (although not a lefty). However, Pettite was a lifetime Yankee, so I understand fan reaction to losing one of their most popular players. What I do not understand is the hullabaloo over Roger Clemens? announcement he is un-retiring to pitch for the Astros.

Let?s be clear on this subject, for all the Yankee fans who a) think they got hosed and b) happen to read this column. Roger Clemens is not a turncoat. He came back to Houston because his family wanted him to and his best friend Pettite is pitching there now. Under no circumstances would he have been a Yankee next year. If Pettite had re-signed with the Yankees, Clemens would have stuck to his retirement plan, so either way he wouldn?t be in pinstripes. End of story. But Yankees fans are upset, and I am loving it.

I didn't write that article just thought i'd post it and i am a big yankee fan as well as a over all new york fan.

As far as clemens goes i can understand him playing in his home state texas, was he a yankee turn coat nahhh.I don't think he was ever that true of a yankee to begin with.He was there to win a world series something he couldn't get with the red sox.I guess some yankee fans feel diferently.I also felt zimmer was never that true of a yankee as well as torre.Wille gets his chance soon.

Look forward to the dusty diamond picks and baseball.
