The inflated Hr totals of the 90's to present day could make the 500 HR Club not as excusive as it once was...An automatic invite to Cooperstown.

I'm sure this debate will get heavy once Rafael Palmeiro becomes eligible. I'd put him in. So I guess I'm saying 500 still does it.

in a 16 year carreer spanning 1971-1986:

runs - 901
hits - 1575
2b - 240
HR - 442
rbi - 1210
sb - 85

are these hall-of-fame numbers?

I don't think those are Hall of Fame numbers, necessarily. But I don't have all the numbers. (I'm trying to look at numbers without presuming a name -- doesn't quite look like Cal Ripken. Dave Kingman maybe, but you didn't list strikeouts!)
Need to know what other numbers are in the context. Including MVPs, WS rings. And what was his Hall of Fame moment?

Does my man Fred McGriff deserve to get in because he never did steroids like just about every great home run hitter of his generation?

Unfortunately, I doubt he'll get credit for that. He'll be remembered more as the guy who turned down a trade to a contender. A lot of great players aren't in, and I expect he'll be one of them.

Before this steroid scandal broke, I had doubts about Mc Griff, and Frank Thomas. Now I believe you have to put them in because they put up legitimate numbers the right way.
