Which stats to track

I'm putting together my notebooks for the season, and I'm trying to add some categories I think are important and get rid of misleading numbers.

I've decided that tracking the hot teams requires more than looking at the "streak" column.

What determines hot, besides the opposing lineup and pitcher? I've decided to track each team's on-base % by game, OPS (on-base plus slugging) % by game.
Also, I've decided it's important to track the ERA of the opposing starting pitcher and bullpen (to eliminate false positives, so to speak).
One other stat I think is revealing is pitches seen each game. I think we can tell which teams are being patient at the plate this way.
Then again, a team that's five runs down is less patient.

I would like to hear some thoughts on these stats and suggestions on others - both that are interesting and those that have been used and failed to produce results.

I suggest you go here first. Look real deep into their pages and I'll bet you find they already track a lot of what you're looking for.

http://www.covers.com/data/mlb/game/mlb_game.html

They only have one game listed (Game 6 of last years WS), but going in there and then jumping thru all the Stat links should get you where you need to be.

That's a great site. Only things I couldn't find is a history of teams' opposing starters (not the starter that day, but the ones responsible for their recent results) and pitches seen by an offense.

Well, on the primary page for the Matchup, you can see Past 10 games with listed Starters.

Also by clicking SEASON next to any team, you can see like 10 years previous with listed Starters

Thanks, Barman. Very nice. And Patriot, I also believe heavily in a pitcher's WHIP. At one time, I used it almost exclusively -- my bad.
I think it - over the past three starts - reveals more about a pitcher's current ability than anything else.
