no plays yet but posted this in pustas thread and wanted my own copy:

I'm looking at Boston as well but I'm not sure I can pull the trigger. I'm up about 4.5 but I don't know if I'm ready to blindly risk any profits on this team before I see them do a little better.

However logic would suggest that Schilling should do better than pedro (pedro allowed 2 so maybe shilling will allow only 1?),

and we won't see Timlin or Williamson again [hopefully],(allowed 4 between the two of them - 3 from timlin!) -

and you'd think if they could manage to leave 14 players on base (vs ponson and co.), 7 of which were in scoring position, then they should be able to do better against Dubose (they got 1 against ponson and 1 against dejean - should be able to better that to 2+ vs Dubose)

BUT I don't know so much about Julio as their closer but I did hear he had a below average spring, and I read (http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/223350) that he had shoulder trouble this past winter. I would think that since he hasnt seen action since last week that we will see him this afternoon.

The sox pen is probably going to be the deciding factor that will keep me off this one. Foulkes preseason era of over 15 is one reason, and I'm guessing we'll see Mendoza as well - and you probably feel the same way I do about him (that he is a yankee plant [

])

I am also looking at Tampa +190 - thats a good payout for a team that just split with the yanks and now come home with a little confidence. Plus we wont see Moss Gozolez or Sosa today (who are shaken most likely from giving up 12 runs to the yanks the other day). I am hesitant however to see if zambrano is for real and if baez will be able to shut the door again.

Youd think that the yanks would pull mussina sooner today and plug in flash gordon or someone else who can hold their own...

just saw this about pedro

Now I'm starting to wonder if this is media BS or what - but the comments from francona did make it seem like it is an issue even though he said it wasnt...

I wonder if this will be enough of a distraction for baltimore to sneak in another win. Evaluating the status of things it seems to me that things somewhat balance out here (schilling(a plus)foulke(a minus)- and Dubose(a minus?)lopez,viagara,and tejada(a plus)... but controversy in boston can go a long way, especially when it could potentiall squelch schillings debut.

hmmm

+182 for the Os is starting to look better

Also I know I mentioned this before - but the more I think about it, Foulke has to pitch sometime, and today is the day we find out what this dude is made of. Anyone think he can handle the pressure and controversy (however minor), all the while having that 15 exhibition ERA hanging over his head?

For a variety of reasons both the O's and Rays are live dogs today IMO. Maybe the two best plays on the card today.

Tropicana Field is sold out. Zambrano a strong 4-4 against Yanks. Rays beat Pedro in home opener last year. Revenge factor yes...but Moose is a question mark.......

And no one mentions Nomah?

Jawpaw,

What's up my fellow Mainer. Don't know if you read my post -But, I am here in York. Look forward to your comments. I have followed this site and postings for a few years. Just recently have I had the time and have taken the game a bit more seriously.

Now for today::

I agree with all you are saying. No doubt. But, you must look at this. No way in hell are the sox going to strand so many runners. They will hit the ball. Look, I was suprised with Reese, Bellhorn and Kapler. They were semi-impressive.

Schilling .. Usually goes well into the game- possibly even finishing. (I doubt today due to first start) However, he does have some pressure- for his first showing... Yet, keep in mind many of the bird's hitters have not seen him. He is going to pitch well. Should limit less than 3 runs. As far as Foulkes performance (Remember that was only spring training) He is a great closer and hopefully will get to display himself today.

Now, the birds:::
They should come out pumped as well. Should play with confidence. However, I just don't think the pitching matchups with even out.
Dubose, very early on in his career for this role I feel. Just the second game of the season aginst Schilling. My personal opinion. I think the Sox are going to come out on fire. They are going to hit some balls and score. No more bullshit with leaving so many runners. Today. Bo Sox Nation gets their first!!!!

I am laying the wood and taking the Sox!!

Great luck!!!!

Remember, Kick the man's assss!!!

good points both of you guys.

nice to hear your opinion jones

o2 mainer

I see what you are saying and you do make the case - but I am at a point now where I really want to try to turn over a new leaf and start trying to make only smart bets, and i cant justify taking a -200 with the level of uncertainty that the bullpen of the sox has to offer.

How long have you lived in maine and how old are you? you got kids?

JawPaw,

I was born in Maine and as a kid my Mother moved to New Orleans with Tulane Univ. I went to highschool there as well as College (LSU) How bout the Tigers. Geaux Tigers!! Great basball history there. I was there when we won a few.. Skip Berkman is now the AD at LSU so continued strength with the tigers in all sports. However, as a kid - I came back and forth during the summers. All my relatives live around here. Except my mother. Still down in the Big Easy. We go back and forth -- The wife is a Southern Girl- and has to be around the family. By the way She hates the winters!!!
Been back here 3 years. Have 3 kids and of course one of them southern wives...

I too right now am in the same position. I am at the point where I want to make the right picks as we all do. However, I have a chance to cap a bit more due to -I work out of home.

Look u know the Sox. U know the way they play. They will get a win today. The bats will be alive. They will move some players on the bases and get some scores. There is no way I see Schilling getting hit hard. Schilling is an ace!! Period. Just like last night (Uconn)go with the better player-- better team. Ya, it is some wood early in the year. True, the late innings have plagued us ... Holy sht... Has it been bad. However, I really think you will see them gain confidence with schilling pitching as well as some bats come alive!. Some runs on the board.

1 thing that scares me is that last year the team almost split with the birds. With that in mind take caution. Of course everything ins a gamble. But,, last year look at who the pitchers were and how they lost. I think the Sox today will be much more efficient in all areas ---- And yes - Even in the late innings. I think today Sox Nation Comes Alive!!!

Sox Nation - 190 (Big....)

Schilling looking very good. Jawpaw, I think they look much better today.. Yes???

Ya, Tulane is a great University. The Green Wave. My mother has been there for like 25 years. She is in the medical field - For Tulane Medical Center. not a teacher at the university.

OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and Millar goes deep..!!!
Ya... Go Bo Sox...

Hope you changed your opinion on the gave. If not best of luck to you. Would never want to rub it in. You just gotta know. I am a Die-hard fan. In fact, I might have told you got engaged in Fenway. --- (It was a loss to Cleveland --) They whole marriage thing just did not start off right way.. Now she hates sports. She can't stand it -- the more I get the fever-- the more she hates it. I must admit. I get spoiled with NESN. Down south-- Especially around Baton Rouge.. or New Orleans.. The Baseball team to watch.. Just WGNO and the Cubs or Astros sometimes Rangers. Never a Sox game. NESN has it all ::: basketball, baseball... Then, you got ESPN.. Man. I love sports.. Gotta love the game.

Good luck today JawPaw....

O2 Man

couldnt pull the trigger on the sox but I am pulling the damn thing on Tampa...

This could be a situation where I would have split if I had bet both of my initial leans - yet only bet one and ended up with the goose egg on the day.

anyway I have enough reasons in my mind to take tampa here - home opener, zambrano with confidence well at least I have two...

Jaypaw,

Hey, so sorry -- I kept on calling you JawPaw.-- Man, my dislexia(?)

Bo Sox Nation win!!!.. I still saw a lot to be desired. Only 4 runs. Still to many on base. And a hit or two into a few double plays (At least one I saw.) As well as Reese hitting into the double play when he should have bunted -- Like what the hell was that he did last night??? Should of laid the bunt down today.

Schilling pitched great. Just as expected.

Yes, we finally see a true closer in a Bo Sox uniform in years. Look forward to seeing how the bullpen holds up this season.

Hey, we only need about 103 more wins to take the division. Hopefully, we won't have any more injury bugs and see our two starters back in the line-up soon..

Great luck all year in bases !!! JayPaw!!
