Looks like its gonna be Lowe vs Ponson...

Both pitchers performed well last week in Baltimore

in the game vs ponson the sox scored only 2 runs on 11 hits - with 14 left on base (by the sox). ponson gave up 1 of the 2 runs scored and 7 of the 11 hits with 3 walks and 3k's in 5.2 innings.

in the game vs lowe they scored 3 on 10 hits with 7 left on base (by baltimore). lowe gave up 7 hits and had 2 runs with 2 walks and 3ks in 7 innings. However if you consider confidence a factor with Lowe (like I tend to from time to time) keep in mind that the sox scored 7 runs in the SECOND vs ainsworth. This time the pressure will be on because the sox will NOT score 7 runs TOTAL vs ponson (unless he decides to smoke crack before the game or some such thing).

Differences:
Ponson left early(ish) after walking bellhorn and pokey reese. His infield had just turned him a double play as varitek knocked himself and kapler off the bases with a bloop to second. Her varitek not been mr double-play-hitter-into (?) then ponson would have walked a run in... He was not happy with his performance but I would say that he did pretty well considering it was around and below 30 degrees for much of that game. If the game is played today it will be wet and maybe chilly but not that cold.

The sox did strand lots of runners on base - grounding into 2 double plays and lots of 2 out pop-outs with runners on base. Had the temp been higher would ponson have been better or worse?

This is a tough one to call but I wanna say that the game will stay under the 9 - only lowe is either great or terrible, so it may be too much of a crapshoot.

I lean on the Os here but since foulke has had some rest and Lowe likes to pitch at home I'll probably end up laying off. Too much uncertainty all around - damon has had an extra day but was he ready in the first place? will they try out williamson just to test him? will they put mr 30+ ERA mike timlin in to try to get his confidence back? If they stick to the basics then the sox may have the edge but who knows...

Anyone else have thoughts on this one?
