Here it is... .pct= (5^1.95)/((5^1.95)+(3^1.95))

Can you tell me what it is and how you got there?
The answer is 73% but I can't figure out how you get there.

Patriot:

Not quite sure I fully understand your formula but in an attempt to assist you, if your symbol ^ means "times", I'm coming up with 62.5% from the following:

5 times 1.95 equals 9.75
5 times 1.95 plus 3 times 1.95 equals 15.6

9.75 divided by 15.6 equals 0.625.

Again, I know little about what you are presenting here by I majored in mathematics and am a licensed engineer. Can't figure out the 73%. Are you sure you have the parenthesis presented correctly?

That is an exponential equation. It is read 5 to the 1.95th power. I don't recall how to do that with the decimal (outside of the calculator). If you have say 5 to the 3rd power (5^3) it would be 5 * 5 * 5 = 125

I am not sure if that is what you are asking or if that helps, but that is my input.

By the way, if you put an equals sign in front of it and pop it in a cell in excel it comes up with your 73%.

JCW412:

That would explain it. If we simply round up the 1.95 to 2 and make it squared we get:

25/34 = .735

Thus using 1.95 probably would bring it to 73%. This oldman has forgotten how to perform exponential equations with decimals as well without a calculator.

I'm curious now too. What does this formula have to do with betting baseball?

Cooper is just a throw in. Alou literally had no one to start in the rotation today, so he had a couple of choices and went with Cooper. Don't know a thing about him. Alou wants to start Schmidt on Friday against the Dodgers and has to stretch the pitching today to be able to get a full rotation in order.

As for any plays today for me, I'm just beginning to take a look but at the moment nothing jumps out yet.

Haven't really taken in any NHL games, just watching every Giant game. Definitely a Homer in this case. I will be able to share local knowledge of the Giants, as I'll probably see more than 100 games if they remain in contention all year. I'm aware of the Predators though via your posts. If I remember correctly you were/are a Red Wings fan but can't ignore the local enthusiam over the Predators. In our area, the Sharks are the news, but again, I don't really follow hockey much. Maybe if they reach the Stanley Cup Finals, they will get my attention.

Your Brewers play sounds logical to me with Cooper pitching for the Giants. Best of luck on that one. I'll be watching. 12:30 p.m. local start here. Kick back, have some lunch and enjoy the game with my wife. She has become more of a baseball fan then me. She doesn't miss a pitch. Amazing! She just began to understand the game a couple of years ago and now asks me everyday if the Giants are playing.

See what I mean about my knowledge of hockey. I knew I remembered a "D". Confused Detroit with Devils. Crazy oldman.

I have nothing in MLB today but did release the T-Wolves in the NBA Forum.

P.S. Brewers up 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th.

i really need that brewers game -- as that is game 3 and im trying to avoid the sweep.. in my system im playing the dog and betting them 1 game at a time -- not to be swept.. if they can win just 1 game then im going to make a profit. looks like im going to have to really handicap more before the series starts and cut my number of plays down to around 6 of the 15 potential series,, i played 12 of the 15 this weekend and won about $800 (based on 1 unit being $100) as none of my 12 were swept, i cut it to 10 of the 15 for the opening set this week and really need a few dogs tonight during game 2's of the series.. ill keep you posted.. at least with dogs and starting with 1/2 unit on day, the risk is limited more,,, and being a financial guy as you are, im sure you know the value of limiting risk..

The Giants didn't start their regulars and gave the ball to Cooper. Barry pinch hitted with 2 on and 2 outs in the 7th and the Brewers leading 3-0, but this time Yost intentionally walked him and decided to try his luck with the pinch hitting Alfonzo. One pitch and the inning was over. These are the type of games that Alou is willing to give up. If he can get a win fine. If not, he feels set for the upcoming series. Good call on this one.
