OK they are +100 at Olympic and yesterday I saw them at -113 so I know where the money's gone...here goes nothing:
1. Phils are off a day's rest after taking the series in dramatic fashion against Zona while the Cards had a day game against their arch-rivals to close out a 4 game set losing 7-3 to Maddux and company. I give the 'schedule' edge to the Phils since they get to sit at home and wait for STL to show up.
2. Both pitchers have had little to no success against the opposition's lineup. Myers has been really bad to start the year and gave up 3 runs on 8 hits in 4 innings at Busch about a week ago (Phils still won but he had little to do with it). Brett is on a short leash with Bowa and Rolen, Pujols and Edmonds have all hit him well (Renteria too) so this one won't be easy. Thankfully Carpenter has been hit a lot by the Phils so if Larry goes out on a limb and plays ALL the regulars tonight
the Phils should have a good chance of being able to stay in the game offensively.
3. It will be cool tonight (58 wind blowing left to right at around 8-10 mph) so don't expect the ball to jump out of the ballpark which will help the pitchers somewhat. The poor numbers for both starters though would keep me far away from the total.
Conclusion: The money has been coming in hard and fast on STL but I like the rested Phillies to find a way in this one. The Cards success on the road AND their lineup's success against Myers will keep me from putting a lot down on it but it's worth a play on the Phils as dogs. Myers stuff is better than what he's shown so far this season so expect a better outing tonight at home from him. This is STL's first game ever in CB Park and recently the Phils have had the edge head-2-head. Wagner has also done well against these guys (Rolen and Renteria 2 for 26 combined lifetime) so if it comes down to him in the end I like our chances.
Phils +100 too good to pass up (1 unit...play it light folks)!
Good luck tonight.
