Yesterday Gagner came in and pitche 2 scoreless innings in a tie game-non save siituation. Someone said many of his saves were easy, not so a pitcher under new rules only gets a save when the number of batters he faces is the number of runs he protects, there are no mor 6 run saves. Iwas amazed at his stats for saves last year, 0.50 era 11 SO per 9 innings un -- believable and no steroids.

I don't understand why Tracy didn't put in Gagne to clean up the last out in the 8th and then complete the game.

Instead he used four pitchers in the inning, giving up 5 runs - all with two outs in the 8th. He didn't want to risk the blown save by bringing in Gagne with bases loaded. Isn't that what a good closer is for? To come in with runners on and get out of the inning and close out the game?

I understand while it was 7-2, but after 4 straight walks and the score 7-6, he should have brought in Gagne. But he didn't have the balls.

Not that Gagne didn't pitch incredibly through this streak, but come on, put him to the test.

NO, he didn't.

He pitched the 11th and 12th innings. He *SHOULD* have pitched the 8th and 9th.

...from yahoo.com

"The Dodgers improved the NL's best record to 20-10 by winning their fourth in a row and seventh in nine games. But had they lost -- and they came close -- Tracy no doubt would've been second-guessed for not using Gagne during Pittsburgh's five-run eighth.

``With a 7-2 lead, I wasn't going to warm Eric Gagne up in the eighth inning -- not on May 9,'' Tracy said. ``No, he wasn't part of that eighth.''

Gagne wouldn't say if he was unhappy at not being one of four Dodgers relievers to pitch in the eighth, but said, ``I'm always ready to go. I was available.'' "
