DETROIT +1½ -136 AND UNDER 9 +100 (Redman vs Marroth) WIN +100 & WIN +100

Detroit is looking to avoid a three game sweep here and so far this season they played well in closing games of a series after losing the previous game. 3-1 as underdogs, including big wins vs Rogers , Escobar and Santana. Marroth coming of a loss trying to end a multiple game losing streak for his team has been a winning formula for Detroit in last couple of years. This combo is 7-1 su and 8-0 ats (+1½ runspread) in last 8 in this spot, every time as an underdog. Oakland failed to show up in last 4 when having a chance to sweep their opponents, going 0-4, while being outscored 26:9 in the process. They were supposed to have the pitching edge in every one of these games going with Hudson, Harden, Mulder and Zito, against Hendrickson, Rogers, Moyer and Lewis, but they simply decided not to show up. I expect another close game today, and I won't be surprised to see Detroit win this one.

The total has been set way too high (9) for these two teams/pitchers. Oakland is having lots of troubles scoring on the road. In their last 5 road games, they scored under 4 runs per game and almost in every one of those 5 games, the opposing pitchers had either their best or second best outing of the season. The same goes for Detroit, as they struggle scoring runs at home. They scored only 12 runs in last 5 home games, and 4 times in those 5 games the opposing pitcher had either his best start of the season or his best start in a while. These two offensivelly challenged teams now have to face Redman who allowed only 4 er in last 20.2 IP on the road and Marroth who allowed only 7 er in last 19.1 IP at home.

CHICAGO CUBS -131 WIN +100

The Cubs are probably the best team in majors in last few years when trying to avoid a sweep. They are 7-0 in their last 7 in this spot, outscoring the opponents 32:15 in the process. They are also 2-0 vs the sweep this year and 6-0 in their last 6 last games of a series after losing the previous game. Today they send their hottest pitcher on the mound to stop the bleeding. Zambrano has been excellent in his last 2 starts with 0 ER, 5H, 17K and only 3 BB in 16 IP. He will face Nomo who has not been impressive this year. Los Angeles has not been very strong in sweep opportunities this year, losing both times at home and barely edging their opponent twice on the road (1 run win @ SF and extra innings win @ Pitt)

Other plays :

Montreal +1½ -176 LOSS -176
Ch. White Sox -152 WIN +100

Total Thursday : 4-1 +224, 3-0 +300 BEST PLAYS
