COLORADO (21 - 35) at NY YANKEES (35 - 20)
Jeff Fassero (L) vs. Javier Vazquez (R)

A Major League mismatch tonight as the red-hot New York Yankees host the Colorado Rockies in Interleague play.

The Yankees are 18-8 at home this season while the Rockies are just 8-19 on the road.

The Yankees sit 2 1/2 games clear atop the AL East at 35-20 overall. Meantime the Rockies are almost the mirror image with their 21-35 record the worst in the NL West. They have lost two straight and seven of their last ten overall.

"We're not doing anything to help ourselves out," manager Clint Hurdle said following yesterday's 10-5 loss to the Giants. "After the fifth inning, we didn't have a hit. We've made some errors. We're not doing enough good things to get on any kind of roll."

The Yankees have won eight of their last ten overall, are 15-5 (+6.2 units) this season versus teams with a losing record and a dominant 13-3 (+8.3 units) against left-handed starters.

The Yankees are averaging 6.1 runs per game against lefty starters this season and should be able to feast on the diminishing talents of Jeff Fassero. The 41 year-old southpaw has mainly been used in relief this season but in two starts has lasted just 8 2/3 innings and allowed 13 hits and 10 earned runs. That's bad news when you consider the Rockies bullpen was battered in the Giants series and lost their best reliever Monday when left-hander Brian Fuentes was placed on the DL. Fassero is 3-4 when starting against the Yankees with an ERA of 5.40 and a WHIP of 1.606.

Javier Vazquez pitched seven strong innings against the Orioles in his last outing, allowing two runs and five hits to earn his third straight win. He is 2-2 when starting against the Rockies with an ERA of 4.94 and a WHIP of 1.420

While the Yankees had the day off yesterday, the Rockies lost at home in scorching 95 degree weather and will have had very little time to adjust from the thin Colorado air.

The Yankees have the edge in every category in this match-up and should be able to win by at least two runs.

Recommended Play: NY Yankees -1.5 -140

Good luck
