Sure thing guys...
I watched the last game that Doug Eddings Umped
between Tor/Oak last week.
Seems like anything within a mile of the plate
gets called a strike by this guy.

Eddings has been unbelievable for unders for his entire umpiring career - compiling a record of 64-98. What's more, his career strikeout to walk ratio (2.75) is by far the highest of any ump in the game today - 2nd place is Bill Miller at 2.36.

A word of caution, however: The game opened at u10.5 -110 Monday night at pinny and dropped all the way to u9.5 -120 before it was rained out yesterday. It is obvious that having Eddings behind the plate was what was behind this move. This morning it opened about the same and has dropped even more today, although not as drastically. In short, it looks like having Eddings behind the plate is already factored into the line. One other concern is whether Eddings will actually be behind the plate. MLB frequently changes the normal umpire rotations after rainouts.

On the positive side, each bullpen had a full day off after both were used extensively Monday night.

quote:
Probaly a good idea to check mlb.com
an hour before gametime to varify that
he is still going to ump tonights game.

Another word of caution - mlb.com has on numerous occasions had the wrong umpire listed for a given game. They go by the normal umpire rotations. Doubleheaders and rainouts are frequently handled differently.

MD Kid,

Good stuff you got there.
The line is set at 9.5 runs and only once this year
has an Eddings umpired game gone over that total
and that game only hit 10 runs.
Not a bad idea to play the %'s when Eddings is
behind the plate.

MLB.com still has Eddings listed as the ump
for game #1 today.

MD Kid mentioned that MLB.com does make mistakes
with the umps they list sometimes though.
Hopefully somebody can confirm before gametime.
