First place will be on the line tonight in San Francisco, as the surging Giants will attempt to overtake the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West standings.

San Francisco won the first contest in this series, 3-2, to pull within a 1/2- game of the front-running Dodgers. Jayson Werth posted three hits for the Dodgers, who lost for the second time in seven games.

Guillermo Mota (3-2) took the defeat after giving up the winning run. Odalis Perez, the Dodgers starter, allowed just two runs on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings. Perez is still unbeaten (2-0) in is last six starts.

Los Angeles lefthander Kazuhisa Ishii will try to run his decision win streak to four tonight. Ishii is 3-0 over his last five starts, including a no- decision versus Baltimore last Thursday. The Japanese hurler allowed nine hits and three runs over six innings, while fanning three and walking one in the contest. Ishii is without a loss since May 20 versus Philadelphia.

Ishii was terrific against the Giants on April 25, allowing just four hits over a shutout. For his career, Ishii is 2-1 with a 4.78 ERA in six games against San Francisco.

Despite Monday's loss, Los Angeles has dominated the series this season, posting a 5-2 record. The Dodgers swept a three-game set at SBC Park from April 16-18. Since the start of the 2002 campaign, the Giants own a 26-19 advantage in this series, including a 13-10 home record.

Los Angeles is 17-17 on the road this season.
