should really consider trading Barry Zito. I honestly think he is on the down side of his career. They could significantly upgrade their roster b/c some team will give them some good players in return thinking he still has something left. Hitters have figured him out. Last night was a big game for him considering the way his starts have been going recently. He proved he is not a big money pitcher b/c they are the ones who come back with a purpose. And he showed nothing. He put his team in a big hole again and that was that. He can beat up on the lower level teams, but playoff caliber teams will continue to devour him. Overrated is the word I will now use to describe Zito. The A's are better off to get something while they can. He is the Mike Hampton of the west.

With all due respect I have to disagree with you. Yes Zito is not having a good year but it's only been 3 months. Last night in the first inning he was hit a double play ball and when he turned to throw it neither Suctaro or Crosby was covering the bag. He should have been out of the inning with no runs and he gave up five after that. I think his record is 4-5 with an era over 5 right now but it's too early to give up on him. He's is after all a quality left hander (last 5 years) which is tough to find these days. I think he deserves a chance to right his ship till the end of the year and then they could take a look at trading him. As for him being on the downside of his career he's only 26 years old.

That's just my take

I see your point. Maybe I'm just venting b/c I had him in his last three starts against, stl, chic, and sf. And he got lit up in all three. Now granted they are Nl teams, they are still playoff caliber teams who can hit, and imo with the exeption of stl, can't hit nearly as good as texas, anaheim (when healthy), yanks etc in the al. All teams oakland will face. That slow off speed stuff he is throwing and which as worked in past seasons are not fooling hitters anymore. I know i'll play him in his next start as well. Shame on me.
