Travis Blackley has quickly become a gem in the Mariners minor league system.
In his last start, Blackley went seven innings, giving up no runs on two hits, and struck out six batters while walking none. For his performance, Blackley was named the Mariners Minor League Player of the Week.

The non-drafted free agent, out of Melbourne, Australia, was signed by the Mariners on Oct. 29, 2000, and has moved up in the organization during each of his four years. This year, at Triple-A Tacoma, Blackley owns a 2.49 ERA -- best in the Pacific Coast League -- to go along with his 6-2 record.

The budding star is only 21 years old and his 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame is described as average size, but very athletic.

Blackley can be regarded as a horse following back-to-back seasons where he threw more than 120 innings, but this year with the Rainiers, Blackley has also found a knack for going the distance. He leads his team with 79 2/3 innings pitched and leads the league in shutouts with two.
