Colorado Rockies left-hander Joe Kennedy was scratched shortly before his scheduled start against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night because of shoulder stiffness.
Right-hander Adam Bernero was named the starter less than an hour before the first pitch in the Rockies' attempt for their sixth straight victory.
Bernero had spent the entire season on the disabled list with shoulder problems before returning on June 30. He got his first victory Sunday, pitching two scoreless innings of relief against Detroit.
Kennedy is 5-4 with a 3.95 ERA in 17 starts. After a strong start to the season, he has won just once in his last 11 starts.
