**Padres (Peavy) at Astros (Pettitte)**

–Las Vegas Sports Consultants opened Houston as a $1.35 home ‘chalk’ over San Diego, with the total listed at 8 ½ ‘under’ (minus $1.20). This National League contest is set to begin at 8:05 p.m. ET.

–San Diego pitcher Jake Peavy (5-3, 2.43 ERA) was riding a personal three-game winning streak before his July 7 setback to Houston as a home ‘pick,’ 5-1. The 23-year-old surrendered four runs on seven hits (one home run) with four walks and two strikeouts over just four innings.

–The combined six runs went ‘under’ the seven-run closing total, ending three consecutive ‘over’ outings.

–Peavy was 2-0 versus the Astros last year in two starts, going a combined 12 runs while yielding two runs on three hits (two home runs) with seven walks and 16 strikeouts. The Padres triumphed by scores of 3-1 and 7-1.

–Houston hurler Andy Pettitte (5-2, 4.14 ERA) finished the first-half of his season by beating Los Angeles last Friday as a $1.07 road favorite, 3-2. The Louisiana left-hander was reached for two runs on four hits (one home run) with no walks and four strikeouts over seven innings.

–The combined five runs failed to eclipse the 7 1/2-run closing total, ending a string of five straight ‘over’ outings for 32-year-old.

–Pettitte has not started against San Diego the previous few seasons.

–San Diego is in the thick of the NL West race with a 47-41 record. The Padres finished the first-half of the season by going 1-4 the last five games.

–Houston has some ground to make up as the second-half of the season gets underway. This will mark the first game that Phil Garner will lead the Astros after the All-Star break firing of Jimy Williams.

**Giants (Rueter) at Rockies (Estes)**

–LVSC installed Colorado as a $1.15 home favorite over San Francisco, with the total set at 13 ½. This contest is scheduled to start at 9:05 p.m. ET.

–San Francisco hurler Kirk Rueter (5-6, 4.85 ERA) improved to 3-0 his previous five outings by beating Colorado July 7 as a $1.72 home favorite, 8-4. The Murray State product allowed three runs on five hits (one home run) with two walks and one strikeout over 6 1/3 innings.

–The combined 12 runs toppled the 9 1/2-run closing total, helping the ‘over’ cash his third straight start.

–Rueter fell to the Rockies June 5 as a $1.02 road underdog, 11-2, after being tagged for five runs (four earned) on nine hits (one home run) with two walks and one strikeout over just 4 2/3 innings. The combined 13 runs landed directly on the closing total.

–Colorado southpaw Shawn Estes (8-4, 5.87 ERA) finished the first-half of his season with back-to-back no decisions. The 6-foot-2 hurler is off last Friday’s no-decision versus San Diego after allowing four runs on eight hits (one home run) with one walk and seven strikeouts over seven innings.

–The Rockies eventually prevailed as a $1.80 road underdog, 6-5. The combined 11 runs eclipsed the 7 1/2-run closing total, enabling the ‘over’ to cash his second straight start after going ‘under’ three times in a row.

–Estes has a pair of no-decisions versus San Francisco this season, surrendering a combined five runs on 12 hits (one home run) with 10 walks and 10 strikeouts over 11 innings. Colorado fell as a $1.41 road underdog, 4-2, and as a $1.43 home ‘chalk,’ 10-5.

**Yankees (Vazquez) at Tigers (Maroth)**

–LVSC has New York as a $1.80 road ‘chalk’ over Detroit, with the total listed at 9 ½. This American League tilt is set to start at 7:05 p.m. ET.

–New York’s Javier Vazquez (10-5, 3.56 ERA) enters this contest with a 3-0 ledger his past four starts compliments of last Friday’s victory over Tampa Bay as a decided $2.40 home favorite, 5-4. The right-hander yielded three runs on four hits (two home runs) with five walks and nine strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

–The combined nine runs slithered ‘under’ the 9 1/2-run closing total, ending back-to-back ‘over outings for the Puerto Rico native.

–Detroit left-hander Mike Maroth (5-7, 5.02 ERA) puts his unblemished 3-0 home record and 3.12 ERA on the line in this contest.

–The 26-year-old fell to 0-4 his past five starts when he suffered a July 8 setback to Minnesota as a $1.09 road underdog, 7-1. In 6 2/3 innings, he surrendered six runs on seven hits (one home run) with one walk and three strikeouts.

–The combined eight runs failed to topple the 10 1/2-run closing total, ending back-to-back over outings for the three-year veteran.

–Maroth has not started against the Yankees the previous few years.

–New York beat Detroit Thursday as a $1.52 road favorite, 5-1, while the combined six runs went ‘under’ the 10 1/2-run closing total. The Yankees enter this contest riding a five-game winning streak.

–Detroit has seen the ‘under’ cash its past five outings.

**Red Sox (Martinez) at Angels (Escobar)**

–LVSC opened Boston as a $1.40 road favorite over Anaheim, with the total set at 8 ½ ‘under’ (minus $1.20). This game is scheduled to start at 10:05 p.m. ET.

–Boston ace Pedro Martinez heads to the hill trying to improve his 9-3 record and 3.67 ERA in 18 outings. The lanky right-hander finished the first-half of the season by beating Oakland July 7 as a decided $2.50 home favorite, 11-3.

–The Dominican Republic native was reached for three runs (two earned) on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts over seven innings. The combined 14 runs eclipsed the 8 1/2-run closing total, helping the ‘over’ improve to 3-0-1 his previous four outings.

–Martinez escaped with a no-decision against Anaheim June 2 after allowing seven runs on 11 hits (one home run) with two walks and four strikeouts over five innings. The Red Sox dropped that affair as a $1.55 road ‘chalk,’ 10-7. The combined 17 runs soared ‘over’ the 7 1/2-run closing total.

–Anaheim had dropped Kelvim Escobar’s previous six starts before he beat Toronto Saturday as a road ‘pick,’ 11-2. The right-hander improved to 5-5 with a 3.91 ERA after limiting the Blue Jays to two runs on five hits with three walks and nine strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

–The combined 13 runs went ‘over’ the nine-run closing total.

–Escobar was 1-0 versus Boston last year in two starts as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. The Venezuela native went a combined 14 innings, yielding four runs on 13 hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Toronto prevailed as a $1.44 road underdog, 4-1, while losing as a $1.10 home favorite, 8-7.
