Chicago +1.05 over TEXAS
White Sox flexed their muscles yesterday with a big offensive outburst and we expect much of the same here. Bottom line here is that when anything is being offered against Rangers starter John Wasdin, you can instantly pencil me in. Wasdin has been moping up games for years and by default, he’ll get a rare start here. He’s been pitching in the majors for nine years and has a career ERA of 5.31. This month he’s appeared in three games and the opposition is hitting .419 against him. Even the light hitting Mariners lit him up like a pinball machine as they scored seven runs on him in just 2.2 innings. He doesn’t strike out many, he walks plenty, and he’s about the last guy in the majors that can be endorsed as the chalk. Thanks for coming out. Play Chicago +1.05 (Risking 1.6 units).

ATLANTA –1½ +1.45 over Philadelphia
Love to play hot teams and this host remains about the hottest in the game right now. In fact, on June 23, the Braves lost to the Marlins in a 6-0 shutout and sat 6 ½ games back of the Phillies. At the time, everyone wrote them off and today they sit in first after beating this intruder last night. Atlanta has now won 17 of their past 22 games and will send Jaret Wright to the mound to try to extend the lead to two. Wright is having a great season and appears to be getting stronger. In his last three contests, he’s allowed just 13 hits in 19 innings and has given up just one bomb over that span. In 105 innings of work this year, the opposition has gone yard on him just six times. That bodes very well here as the Phillies have relied upon the long ball all year for offense. They rank 18th in the majors in batting average but fifth in home runs. When they can’t go deep, scoring runs have been a problem and that looks like the case here. Eric Milton may have an impressive won/loss record, however, he’s been anything but impressive. Milton has been tagged for 21 jacks in 109 innings and on the road he has an ERA of 4.59. Atlanta is steamrolling while the Phillies are in a funk having lost four of six and giving up the NL lead. The beat goes on. Play Atlanta –1½ +1.45 (Risking 1.6 units).

TORONTO +1.55 over Oakland (3:30 PM)
Blue Jays broke an ugly six game losing streak last night and with a healthy line-up, fully intact now, expect this team to be cashing plenty of tickets in the second half. We’re going to get tremendous value on them for the next couple of weeks with this game being one of those times. This edition of the Blue Jays can bash with the best of them and with Wells and Delgado back in business, this team takes on a whole new look. Wells may just be one of the top five hitters in the game. Wells, out since June 16 with a strained right calf, is hitting .333 (6-for-18) with one home run and two RBIs in four games since coming off the disabled list. He hit .360 in 35 games before the injury. Wells is batting .303 with 10 homers this season, after hitting .317 with 33 home runs in 2003. Rookie David Bush will make just his third start of the year and hasn’t looked a bit out of place. In two starts he has an ERA of 3.86 and in his one road start his ERA is 1.59. Rich Harden has walked 11 batters in his past 19 innings and as a result his ERA over that span is 5.31. You won’t find many teams in the majors who work the count as well as the Blue Jays. This choice is not about the starting pitchers, it’s about playing a very live Blue Jays team with lots being offered. Play Toronto +1.55 (Risking 1.6 units).

Cleveland +1.53 over ANAHEIM (4:30 PM)
Way too much being offered here on the Indians and Jake Westbrook to pass up on and we’re not about to. Westbrook is as steady as anyone and comes into this contest with impressive numbers right across the board. He’s already logged 114 innings and has surrendered just 103 hits. The opposition has hit just .235 against him all season and in his past two games they’ve hit just .143. He averages close to seven innings per start and has an ERA of 3.21. Angels will counter with Jarrod Washburn who has found this venue to be difficult all year. Washburn has been much more effective on the road as his 5.58 ERA at home would attest to. Angels are good, very good in fact, however, taking back better then 3-2 odds on this live Indians team has got to be considered the right move, Huge overlay. Play Cleveland +1.53 (Risking 1.6 units).
