The Tigers are the much better team in todays matchup. They are atop the AL in many hitting categories. Today they send M. Maroth to the hill seeking his 7th win on the season. Maroth lost 20 games last season, but this year he seems like a new pitcher. He is coming off a superb performance against the Yankees...shutting them out 8-0. Maroth has been unbeatable at Comerica this year, going 4-0 with a 2.55 ERA in seven starts. The last place Royals send D. May to the hill. May has been pitching better of late, but he is not having a good year. He is 7-9 with a 5.15 era. The Tigers should hit him early and often today.

Astros -141

To be perfectly honest there is no statistical or logical reason for playing the Astros here other than the fact that Andy Pettitte has been a stopper his whole career and the fact that the Diamondbacks are a pathetic team. When the Yankees were in slumps Andy was there to end it. Even if the team was playing bad or he wasnt pitching well, if the team needed a slumpbuster, he would somehow find a way to do just that. The Diamondbacks are in the midst of a 9 game losing streak heading into this series against the desparate Astros. They send B. Webb to the hill. Despite his very solid 3.89 era, Webb is just 3-10. He has a very good 3.24 era in his last 5 outings but he is 0-5. That is a testament to how bad the D-Backs offense is and will be. They have a few veteran hitters but they are comprised mostly of young unproven guys. Pettitte should have his way with the Diamondback bats and maybe the Astros will play looser on the road.

A's -151

The A's send Barry Zito to the hill tonight in hopes of building upon his first good start in a while. After a very disappointing 1st half, Zito began the 2nd half with a bang, holding the heavy-hitting White Sox to just 1 run in a 5-1 A's win on Friday. The A's are 51-41 and in a tight race for the Division as well as the Wild Card. The Mariners are another pathetic team and deserve to be faded, especially against far superior pitchers and teams. They send rookie T. Blackley to the hill in search of his first win since his Major League debut. Since that start Blackley has gone 0-2 with about 18.00 era. The A's should knock around the rookie and Zito should have no problem shutting down the low scoring Mariners.
