Minnesota +1.15 over BALTIMORE
Orioles are falsely favored here in a game that points in the visitor’s direction no matter how you break it down. Sidney Ponson is pitching more like Sidney Poitier. Anyway, Ponson has been torched to the tune of 160 hits in 119 innings of work. His ERA over 19 starts is 6.13. He owns a deserving 4-12 record and he’ll face a hot team here that has reeled off five in a row. Twins are seeing beach balls the past three games as they’ve scored 26 times over that stretch. They’ll send veteran Terry Mulholland to the hill to face an Orioles line-up that owns an 11-21 record when facing a lefty. Mulholland has been solid all year, especially on the road where he is 2-2 with a 3.12 ERA. There’s not one convincing argument to lay off this pooch and thus, we’re gladly stepping in. Play Minnesota +1.15 (Risking 1.6 units).

Milwaukee +1.35 over HOUSTON
The Astros are about the last team in the majors you want to lay anything with. The fact that they are almost a 3-2 favorite is a joke. It took a two game set with the D-Backs for them to get healthy and what do they do next? They lost again to this visitor last night with Atlee Clemens on the hill (some of you may get that reference, others may not) and they have just 3 wins since the break in 8 games. Actually, they have just one win against teams that aren’t called the Diamondbacks. Milwaukee came in here ripe as hell to get beat. They had dropped four in a row and were shutout in their previous two. It took a dose of the Astros for them to get healthy and now they’ll face Tim Redding. Redding is 1-3 at Minute Maid with a 6.99 ERA. The team is 4-10 when he starts. He is also sporting a 15.75 ERA over his past three appearances and he’s worked out of the pen in every one of those. Dude was asked to pitch an inning or two and keep his boys in the game but he couldn’t even do that. Frankly, I couldn’t give a rat’s ass who’s pitching for the Brew Crew. Betting against these Astros the past month has been a license to print cash and although we missed the opportunity to capitalize last night, not about to make that same mistake here. These aren’t the Diamondbacks. Play Milwaukee +1.35 (Risking 1.6 units).

LOS ANGELES/San Diego over 8 –1.05
Dodgers are swinging the bats as good as anyone in the majors these days and they should have little trouble getting to Ismael Valdez here. Valdez is 9-5, however, it’s his 4.99 ERA that has me licking my chops. You see, Valdez pitches half his games at Petco Park, which experts are calling the toughest hitters park in the majors so that 4.99 ERA is even worse then it appears. Further proof of how ineffective Valdez has been is his 8.06 ERA away from Petco. Dodgers line-up features four guys batting above .300 and that doesn’t include Shawn Green who’s hitting .268 or Milton Bradley who’s hitting .287. Wilson Alvarez will toe the slab for the Padres. Alvarez is having a good year, however, he’ll be facing a very decent line-up here that has gone 10-3 against lefties on the road and we expect at least three or four runs from this intruder and the Dodgers should easily take care of the rest. Total is a tad too low. Play it over 8 –1.05 (Risking 1.68 units to win 1.6).
