3* Texas over

R/L-Cardinals- Cards best road team in baseball at 33-16 and 7-1 in Suppan road games where has a 2.39 ERA. Most of the other card starters get more ink, but Suppan leads the team in ERA. Cards (best offense in NL) have scored 6+ runs in L3 games. Cincy in a slump riding a 7-game losing streak whereby they have managed only 24 runs in that span. Acevedo has been terrible a 6.09 ERA on the year, 14.34-ERA L3 without getting through the 4th inning in L2 starts. Reds 2-8 in his L10 starts (only one of those was a 1-run loss) including 1-4 in L5 where Opp has averaged 7.8-RPG. Reds have lost all three of his starts to the Cards this season incl. recent 10-4 loss to Suppan. Cards have outscored Reds 24-9 in those three games with Acevedo carrying a 7.04-ERA versus.

Over Arz/Hou - Sort of counting on all the runs coming from Astros, although The Rocket was off in last start allowing 5 ER in 5.2-IP. Fossum a 6.17 ERA, opponents have scored 7+ runs in 5 of the L8 games he started incl the L3 in a row. Houston bats have woken up have scored 6+ runs in 5 of L6 games averaging 7-RPG L6. Surprisingly, they haven't done well against LHP at Minute Maid with the short left field wall - but Fossum not a quality lefty.

Tigers - Tribe has dominated right-handers at home this season with a 22-12 record but are only 9-11 vs LHP there and tonight they face a left hander that they've lost all 3-games he has started against them including a 10-4 loss here. Overall Tigers have outscored Indians 27-11 in those three games. Touted Robertson last time out as very underrated due to his overall consistency since May 9th and he let me down. It was only his 2'nd poor game in L14 starts. Still like that percentage combined with this seasons history against Cleveland. Elarton at this stage does not belong on a major league roster, his teams are a combined 3-13 when he starts and on the season owns a 7.88 ERA and as of yet to earn a win decision this season.

Over Tex/Ana - Two pitchers in my opinion who are in poor form, Rogers a 10.29 ERA L3-14-IP. He's been on a prolonged bad run, L5 starts all over the number in which he has a 8.88-ERA. Lackey a 4.76-L3 but owns a 8.70 in two starts (10.1-IP) against Texas this season. While Rogers as a 6.55 in 11-IP against Angels. Anaheim averages near a full run more per game against LHP. Home plate ump Bucknor, 60% Over LY and 65% thus far this year at 13-7/Ov-Un. His games have averaged 11.5-RPG this season. Has had 10+ runs in 4 of his L5 calls with an average of 20-hits per game in that span combined with 9.8-avg walks per game, with no fewer than 9-passes in any of the L5 games he has called.

Play 4*: St. Louis w/Suppan vs Acevedo
Note: Cardinals are 7-1 away behind Suppan this season. In addition they are also 9-1 against an opponent that strikes out seven or more times a game during the 2nd half of the season and 9-1 against an opponent whose team batting average is .255 or less during the 2nd half of the season. St. Louis is our NL Game of the Week.

Winning Points

TEXAS (Rogers) +$125 ANAHEIM (Lackey)

One of the reasons that the Rangers are the most profitable
underdogs (+$1455) in MLB is their excellent record (41-27,
+$1960) against righthanders. Today's starter for the Angels,
John Lackey, will never be included in a list enumerating the AL's
best righties. He's 2-5 lifetime with a 5.55 ERA against the
Rangers including 0-2 in '04 with 8.71 ERA, allowing 20 H/W in
10.1 innings. The Angels are 3-5 (-$330) in his eight home starts.
The Rangers are 7-4 (+$450) vs. the Angels this year and are $870 in the black against them since the beginning of '03.

ATL R ORTIZ -R (11-6, 3.36 ERA) vs PIT OL PEREZ -L (6-4, 3.18 ERA)
In tonight's pitching matchup, Russ Ortiz pitches for the Braves while Oliver Perez takes the mound for the Pirates. Ortiz comes in 11-6 with a 3.36 ERA in 21 starts with one complete game. He has allowed 52 runs on 114 hits with 10 K's, 68 walks and six homers in 131.1 innings pitched. In his last start, which was also against the Pirates, he allowed one run on six hits with 5 K's and 4 walks in 8.0 innings, but he took a no-decision in a 2-1 win. He is 6-0 in nine career starts against the Pirates and has pitched well over the past month or so, going 5-0 in his past six starts with a 1.67 ERA. Perez is 6-4 with a 3.18 ERA, and while his record may not reflect it, he has emerged as one of the dominant left-handed starters in baseball. He has allowed 43 runs on 81 hits with 133 K's, 39 walks and 11 homers in 110.1 innings pitched. In his last start he allowed three runs on five hits with 11 K's, 1 walk and one homer in 7.0 innings and he picked up the victory in a 6-3 win over the Reds. In his last five starts, Perez is 3-0 with a 1.97 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 32 innings and he leads the Major Leagues with a ratio of 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
SELECTION: PITTSBURGH -110

NY YANKEES at TORONTO
NYY J LIEBER -R (7-6, 4.94 ERA) vs TOR M BATISTA -R (9-6, 4.04 ERA)
Tonight's pitching matchup features Jon Lieber of the Yankees versus Miguel Batista of the Blue Jays. Lieber is 7-6 with a 4.94 ERA in 15 starts. He has allowed 56 runs on 120 hits with 47 K's, seven walks and 12 homers in 94.2 innings of work. With Roy Halladay injured and Pat Hentgen retired, Batista will be expected to pitch well and provide leadership. He is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in one career start versus the Yankees.
