Gotta take another shot against Arroyo

Its been a while since he's dropped one - and Minny has been hot lately...

Boston Red Sox (55-45) at Minnesota Twins (57-44), 8:10 p.m.

07/30/2004

Game Preview

(Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox try to get back on the winning track this evening when they continue their season-long road trip in Minnesota with the opener of a three-game set against the Twins at the Metrodome. On Thursday, the Sox found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-1 decision against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Curt Schilling (12-5) was tagged with the loss, as he allowed seven hits and four runs over seven frames. David Ortiz spoiled the Orioles' combined shutout bid with two outs in the ninth inning, as he slugged his 27th home run of the year for Boston, which had a three-game winning streak stopped. Heading to the hill tonight for the Red Sox will be righthander Bronson Arroyo, who is unbeaten in his last four starts, but has just one win over that span. In his last outing on Saturday against the Yankees, Arroyo was hammered for eight runs - six earned - and 10 hits in 5 2/3 frames, but did not receive a decision in his team's 11-10 win. Arroyo has never faced the Twins. Boston, which is in the midst of an 11-game road trip, is 22-27 away from home this season. The Twins, meanwhile, come into tonight's tilt on a winning note after Jacque Jones stroked an RBI single in the 10th inning to lift Minnesota to a 5-4 win over Chicago on Wednesday in the finale of a three-game set at U.S. Cellular Field. Torii Hunter and Lew Ford added solo homers for the Twins, who have won nine of their last 10 games and moved a season-high 13 games over .500. Minnesota starter Carlos Silva worked 6 2/3 innings and allowed four runs and seven hits, but did not figure into the decision. Terry Mulholland (3-3) earned the win with a scoreless frame. Heading to the hill tonight for the Twins will be righthander Kyle Lohse, who is 4-7 on the year with a 4.87 ERA. Lohse is coming off a win in his last start on Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles, as the 25-year-old hurler yielded four runs - three earned - on seven hits over five frames. He has not lasted more than five innings in any of his last three starts. Lohse lost to the Red Sox earlier in the season and is 0-1 lifetime against them with a 4.67 ERA in three starts. Shannon Stewart has hit safely in 15 of his last 17 games and is batting .532 (25-for-47) during that span. The Twins will be beginning a 10-game homestand tonight and are 28-22 at home this season. Minnesota took two of three from the Red Sox earlier in the year at Fenway and has won six of its last nine versus Boston in the Twin Cities.

We were right there with ya on this one...felt like the .500 (past three months) Sox would have trouble on road vs first place Twins.

May take another try tonite with Radke...stay tuned...I'd appreciate your thoughts on that.

Im gonna jump on radke at -120

its higher than I would have liked (as it at -105 at pinny this morning) but same reasoning I used on arroyo last night - lowe hasnt been shelled in a few games and it would seem like minny could be the team to do it.

There - persistence pays off eventually

I see pedro at -101 at pinny

seems a tad low does it not?

I love to fade pedro but given even money I think I'd take the dominican most times

I wonder how his injury is from when idiot francona left him in with a 10 run lead...

I looked at that - toss out last years stats they are irrelevant

but this year he has faced them twice (once as a starter - doing very well over 6 innings only allowing 2 runs - then giving up 5 in the 7th...

If he can do as good as last time he is at least giving his team a chance to win coming into the 7th - what more can you ask.

No bullpen to speak of - then reese (on the DL now of course) damon, kapler, mueller, and bellhorn all come home...

Worth a shot
