MLB FREEBIE: 2* COLORADO
After a warm welcoming ovation at Wrigley Field, Nomar Garciaparra hits the road with his new team as the Cubs begin a three-game series against the Rockies at Coors Field. After changing teams and leagues, Garciaparra got a huge ovation from Chicago fans at Wrigley on Sunday during stretching, pre-game introductions and every at-bat.
The Cubs are 10 1/2 games behind St. Louis for first place in the NL Central. However, they trail San Diego by just one game in the wild-card race. They’ve won 8 of their last 12 games and they’re 14-9 against LHP but Chicago is also 2-9 with Kerry Wood the last 3 years in his August starts.
The Rockies only have the Expos and D-Backs beneath them in the NL but lately this team has put together a weekend sweep of Arizona. They are also 20-10 in the 2nd half.
Colorado is also riding a 4 game win streak with Jeff Fassero who continues to get it done with smoke and mirrors especially at Coors where he has a 8.79 ERA.
