Well, after a bit of a layoff, I'll try and get back on track starting today. Good luck everyone

Montreal +1.63 over ST. LOUIS
Expos are fighting like they’re in a playoff race and if nothing else, one has to admire the grit this team is showing. They came back from 6-1 last night to win their ninth time in the last 11 games. They’ll face Jeff Suppan here. Here’s a guy who is started 242 games in his career and has 71 wins to show for it. In his career the opposition is hitting a healthy .279 against him and this year they’re hitting .264. However, in his last three starts the opposition is hitting 3.16 and in St. Louis, they’ve hit .305 against him this year. His ERA over his past three games is 8.04. Suppan is having a decent year but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s pitched for seven teams and couldn’t keep on with any of them. He’s also a Royals castoff and when you couldn’t crack that rotation form 1999-2002 then you might think about another career. Livan Hernandez has been a rock all year. He usually pitches deep into games and the Expos bullpen has been holding on to leads. Hernandez averages seven innings per games and has a 3.65 ERA. He’s pitched into the eighth inning each time over his past three games and has a 2.13 ERA over that stretch. Line here is hugely inflated. Play Montreal +1.63 (Risking 1.6 units).

NY Mets +1.10 over MILWAUKEE
Taking anything back against the Brewers these days has got to be considered the prudent move and we make no exception here. They’ve dropped 11 of their past 15 games but more disturbing then that is their offense, or lack thereof. Milwaukee has scored two runs or fewer in 9 of their past 15 games. As a team they’ve hit a combined .174 or less in 8 of those 15 games. Steve Trachsel almost always gives the Mets a chance to win. He’s started 22 games and has won nine and lost eight. The team is 11-11 when Trachsel starts and he comes in here with a very respectable 3.63 ERA. He’ll oppose Doug Davis who just signed a contract extension for 4.75 million a year for the next two years. Proof once again that all you need to do in this league is have one good year or 100 good innings and teams will give you just about anything. Yeah, Davis is having a good year, his first in six in the majors. In fact, he’s never been able to last a whole year without being sent to the minors or being traded at least once. Now that he’s been effective, the Brewers think he’s Jimmy Key. Well, prior to his last start against a slumping Pirates team, Davis lost three straight after allowing 16 earned runs in 18 innings. That’s the Davis were all more accustomed to seeing and frankly, I don’t want any part of him or the Brewers as the chalk. Of course this intruder can win here. Play NY Mets +1.10 (Risking 1.6 units).

Oakland +1.36 over NY YANKEES
This is not October yet is it? A’s can’t beat the Yanks in October but they can surely beat them in August. We can safely bet on the A’s in the second half of the year over the Yankees and feel pretty good about it. Oakland is tearing up the league, like they always do after the break, and now sit comfortable atop the division. Tonight we get a premium price on them for one reason and that’s because they’re playing in the Bronx where the visitor always gets more then they warrant. Rich Harden has been brilliant recently for the A’s and in fact, has allowed just nine hits over his last 19.2 frames for an impressive 1.83 ERA. Harden has also struck out 111 batters in 119 innings and it’s never a bad idea to play on hot teams combined with a hot pitcher. Yanks are going to find out that Estaban Loaiza is not the next best thing to Randy Johnson. Loaiza’s won/loss record is good but that’s about it. His ERA is near five, he has an ERA of 5.84 when pitching anywhere other then Chicago and the opposition is hitting .283 against him. Loaiza will feel plenty of pressure tonight and his frame of mind has always been a concern. Oakland has won nine of their past 10 games and while the Yanks are the Yanks, this pooch has got to be considered a very live one indeed. Big overlay. Play Oakland +1.36 (Risking 1.6 units).
