The Mets entered last weekend with high hopes. They pulled the trigger on deals to bring in Victor Zambrano and this season’s pitching crown jewel, Kris Benson. The former Devil Ray makes his debut tomorrow night and Benson was hammered Saturday night at Turner Field.
NY s now 5 games below .500 and 8 games out of both 1st in the East and for the wildcard after last night’s bludgeoning of Milwaukee. They’ve lost 8 of their last 11 games and will go with Steve Trachsel tonight. The right-hander is 2-5 with a 6.40 ERA on the road and overall he’s lost 2 straight.
Doug Davis signed a 2 year extension worth nearly $5-million bucks last week then went out Friday and pitched 7 innings of 4-hit shutout ball against Pittsburgh, which snapped a season-high 3 start losing streak. Davis is 8-4 with a 2.51 ERA at night.
The lefty has won 5 straight games at Miller where he’s allowed only 5 runs in 35 combined IP. The Brewers are also 7-1 at home on Wednesday’s this season.
