Pettitte delays start
Andy Pettitte, who hasn't pitched since leaving his previous start July 26 after five innings with a sore left elbow, is scheduled to start Saturday against the Expos at Minute Maid Park.

Phil Garner had left open the possibility of starting Pettitte on Thursday, but Darren Oliver will make that start. Tim Redding, who has been demoted to the bullpen, will serve as a backup if Pettitte cannot start Saturday.

Pettitte threw long toss for about 20 minutes Tuesday afternoon and threw a few breaking pitches to test his elbow.

"I really didn't know if I could thrust it really hard today like I needed to do and make it to Thursday," Pettitte said. "I'll still have a few days until Saturday."

Garner had left the decision to start Thursday or Saturday up to Pettitte.

"I told him we had some leeway," Garner said of Pettitte. "If he didn't feel exactly 100 percent today, then we had some leeway with the rotation, and we could do something on Saturday and we could flip it."

It will be Pete Munro VS John Thomson!!! just confirmed on the Houston Chronicle website....Munro is a good picher at home.

The Braves starts John Thomson, 8-7, 4.56 ERA. The righty last threw against the Astros on May 7, 2004 coming away with a loss. He allowed 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings, giving up 5 in that one.

The Astros staff is stingy with baserunners, allowing fewer men to reach base than just about every team in the league.

By the numbers
1.93 — Astros starters have a 1.93 ERA over the last 10 games. Roger Clemens, Roy Oswalt, Andy Pettitte, Pete Munro, Tim Redding and Darren Oliver have allowed just 13 earned runs over their last 60 innings.

Did you know?
The Astros have not claimed a season series against the Braves since winning five of nine games against Atlanta in 1998. With their 3-2 win over the Braves on Tuesday, the Astros are 3-1 against Atlanta this season.

Just wanted to let you guys know...the Astros are NOT a good team, all a bunch of underachieving players this year, all having mediocre seasons at the same time. So Atlanta is a great play here!

Max,

It will be interesting to see if last nights game changes the Astros season. That was not the kind of game the Astros normally pull out late against a top notch team.

Thats kinda why I like the match up tonight. Munro is not a bad picher. In fact his last 3 starts he has not givin up more than 3 earned runs.
Phil Garner is making the right moves...it's the difference between Jimy and Phil. JMO

max,

I agree Phil did a nice job going for the win by pulling Roger at the right time and using most of his pinch hitters. That's definately a break from the norm. If Phil uses Brad in the 8th when the Astros get in trouble that will impress me. Atlanta is not shy about bringing their closer in early in hopes of taking the wind out of a rally.

Gameface;
I think the move that got them a rare comeback victory was Phil pulling Asmus for Lamb who delivered the PH single to send Ensburg to third, then Lamb taking out the double play to score the go ahead run. Phil is making the right calls w/ this team. I watch them every game since I live in Houston, and I noticed they are much more aggressive on the bases and Phil is not too quick to go to the bullpen until the late innings.
