MLB : 2* SEATTLE

The Mariners and Tigers are a combined 33 ½ games out of 1st place in their respective divisions. Seattle got the hottest hitter in baseball back last night as Ichiro returned following a beaning. The Japanese star was 3 for 4 last night raising his average to .369 for the season.

Seattle is a putrid 17-45 on the road and they’ve dropped 5 of their last 7. Despite all that and including their loss last night, they are still 16-7 the last 3 years in this series. The Mariners have dropped 5 straight and 9 of 10 with Jamie Moyer but the lefthander is still 6-2 with a 3.05 ERA at night.

Detroit has won 6 of their last 9 games but they haven’t found much success with tonight’s starter. They are 8-17 with Jason Johnson, including a 4-11 mark at home. The right-hander has lost 3 straight while posting a 5.03 ERA. He’s also 2-6 L/T with a 4.99 ERA.

Detroit is also 18-30 for the season when facing lefties.
