Wake returns 4 starters from last year's squad, most notably the missing one is Josh Howard, NBA 1st round pick. Wake also has some significant injuries with PG Taron Downey questionable with appendcitis. However, those in the know realize Wake has super frosh prep all-american Chris Paul waiting in the wings at the PG spot.
Memphis returns three starters none of whom averaged in double digits. The loss of Earl Barron and Chris Massie leaves a big hole in the middle of the Tigers D. Memphis is also banged up with various ailments and is expected to only have 8 scholarship players available for the tip. This does not bode well if the Demon Deacons can force early foul trouble.
Game will depend on if Downey can go, and if not, how frosh Paul reacts in his first game. The feeling here is he plays well enough to give the Deacs the nod over another athletic but overrated Calipari squad.
