wlad-mccline

first off-let`s state the obvious......5-1 dogs are longshots(to say the least)....

i think there are more than enough questions in this fight to take a shot with mccline....i hit it at +480 early and it has bounced around from +400 to +450...

wlad is obviously the more talented guy...quicker,better combo`s,more power....might as well throw the towel in,right....not so fast...

neither guy has been feasting on absolute top tier guys....wlad-mercer(40 years old),shufford,botha,......jameel-whitaker,shannon briggs,al cole....

they do both have decent wins....wlad decisioned chris byrd and jameel beat michael grant....both can be rationalized...byrd did badly vs the klitschko`s....was getting handled easily by vitali also until his mysterious injury.....hard to box effectively when you can`t get within arms reach of your opponent.....mccline caught grant off rebound loss to lennox....

questions-

is mccline for real?....was the early career k.o. an indication of a weakness,or just an early mistake by an inexperienced fighter?...

is wlad the next great hvywt champ as most think?....or was the "give up" vs ross puritty an indication of lack of stamina or toughness(his brother quit when he feigned injury vs byrd....most thought fatigue and frustration did him in)?..both quit....that makes you wonder.

i think there are genuine questions about both guys....no doubt that wlad is a 5-1 favorite for a reason...but,mccline has been on a roll of his own....he is 6`6" and outweighs klitschko by 25 pounds....he has a pretty good defensive,counter-punching style with a long stiff left jab....

klitscko is the new beast....he has all the punches, hits with power and throws combinations....and is quite quick for his size...

there are enough questions to keep me from laying 5-1(i`m wouldn`t lay 5-1 on christy martin over mia st covergirl....and that`s a bag shot)....i couldn`t watch a fight laying those odds...

i think mccline has alot of confidence in hinself since his big upset of michael grant....remember when many thought grant was the next great champ.....mccline was probably chosen because despite his size,he`s not a heavy puncher....but,i think he`s used to going the distance vs big guys that are heavier punchers than himself(whitaker,briggs-although neither nowhere near as talented as wlad)....

what pushed me over the edge to take a shot here was the mercer fight....mercer is 40YEARS OLD....he threw around 15 punches per round(that happens to old, shot fighters....they can`t get their punches off)....but,most of mercers punches were jabs.....and the few that landed, had klitscko pretty marked up after the fight....is this guy gonna be able to gut out a tough 12 round fight with a guy his height and 25 pounds heavier...if mccline survives the first 5 rounds and klitschko is taking some shots and not dominating, can he gut one out?is mccline gonna be able to defend those combinations and withstand wlad`s power early on?...

enough questions for me to take a 5-1(almost) underdog on a roll....a guy used to going the distance...a guy with a stiff jab and a little defense...a guy looking eye to eye with klitscko...

if mccline comes out and exchanges with wlad,we`ll go home early and the klitschko guys will collect....if mccline takes his time with the jabs and counters,is patient and tries to extend klitscko, wlad might get tired and discouraged ala puritty....those stiff jabs can mark a high-cheekboned guy up....

jameel is a 5-1 dog.....there`s a reason for that..and they don`t hit often..but,i see enough to take a shot with the dog for a potential nice payout.....i only hope jameel fights smart and realizes the longer the fight goes, the better his chances....i am a little worried about an early ko.,though....gotta fight smart

Thanks for writing that post. It's exactly what I
was thinking almost to a word. I'm also looking at
a shot with Castillo vs Mayweather. Sure Floyd
is talented to the n'th degree, but Castillo is,
I feel, /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif underated and will give a fine account of
himself tommorrow.

You brought up some some good points. I respect your opinion on fights. I just can't see Mc Cline winning this fight. Klitscko has a nice edge in 3 key area's speed, power and experience. Mc Cline had no amateur experience and gets lost in the ring (deer in the headlights syndrome).

I won't lay -5.00 due to the stamina question on Klitschko. Line looks about right. If Mc Cline can somehow survive, lay his body on Klitschko he could tire him out late. I think it's a real long-shot for Mc Cline to say the least.

Save your bankroll for a dog with a little more life.

I think Castillo is definitely a play at +3.25 (last night), no longer available.

i don`t disagree with what you said about the mccline-wlad bout...no doubt it`s a long shot....smarter guys than me are picking wlad to win easy....some by early k.o...teddy atlas and max kellerman are picking klitschko ...like i said, the guy is a 5-1 fave for a reason...your points on the experience factor are dead on...we know what wlad can do...i`m taking a shot on what we`re not sure he can do....that is win a long, hard fight fight against a man as big as he is,who is motivated, and a pretty decent athelete...if wlad starts fast and presses the issue,he could stop mccline early...mccline is a slow, tentative starter...if you like klitschko, you can cut the odds down by taking the k.o....i think if wlad wins,it`s not going the distance......it should be interesting, whatever happens...g.l.

sphincter,

Excellent analysis on the fight. I agree " Big Time " has a big shot here.

the great thing about betting a 5-1 underdog is you don`t have to break out the rice and water if you lose...if you lay 5-1,it may be gub`ment cheese for a while /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif....you and i know it`s a longshot, but a half unit or a unit can be a nice payoff...and won`t break the bank if we fold....g.l.

Sorry, Vlad takes care of McCline...maybe not without damage, but he'll take care of him.

Best line on tonight is to take a parlay and dummy down the odds on the favorites...winds up being something like -200 at www.wsex.com to parlay both Mayweather and Vlad.

shame on mccline for not trying to take advantage of a huge opportunity.....not surprised he wasn`t available for an interview afterward....
