Wednesday had better be D-Day for me, since I've gotten slaughtered the past two weekends on overshooting the public's taste for comedies (thank you, Analyze That and Hot Chick).

What does everyone think of the second Lord of the Rings flick for this week?

Right now, it stands...

Opening Day: Under/Over 24 million (-110/-120)

Weekend: Over/Under 64 mil (-145/+115)

Five Day Gross: Over/Under 103 mil (-155/+125)

First installment, IIRC, did about 18 mil opening day, so I'm liking the Under -110 at 24 million. Factor in some potential bad weather and a possible NYC transit strike, and that could further eat into profits. Anyone with any other insight?

in everything but the flicks....can`t keep doin` this.....finito.....when maid in manhattan does over 18 million,i know i`m out of touch with the public pulse....j lo couldn`t act or sing her way out of a paper bag....do people go see her just because she`s of a certain ethnicity?her big butt?.....what`s the fascination?....she`s not very talented..not even that attractive....she`s certainly no salma hayek.....she`s sort of the new madonna,i guess....the flavor of the year...

I can relate, man! When I heard WSEX and Greek took lines on movie grosses, I was thinking I could quit my job. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Over the years, I found myself to have kind of a sixth sense for public tastes.

I lost on Analyze and Hot Chick, foolishly thinking two new comedies would fill a void in the marketplace. If I had bet, I would've taken Maid at the UNDER 18.

I'd really like to break even with TTT and then call it quits, but this is not an easy game by any means. WAY too many variables! I would assume it can't outgross the original's 18 million, but hell, my track record isn't so hot right now.

Lakersfan? Any input here?
