I thought I would try my hand at the movies and maybe start a more regular discussion with anyone interested.

I'm taking Darkness Falls to do Over 10 million this weekend. At +180 it seems worth a shot. This movie reminds me of The Ring (which did $15 on it's opening weekend) and DF is benefiting from a slow box office weekend with only Confessions of a Dangerous Mind opening this weekend. I know the Super Bowl is Sunday, but hot off of The Ring's success I figure this movie will suck up the teenagers Friday and Saturday as well as those that don't want to watch the Super Bowl. I'll try the over for +180.

I also placed a wager on Daredevil -12 opening weekend against SHangai Knights. Jackie Chan's last movie (Tuxedo) did $15M against SWeet Home Alabama's $35M. I think Daredevil will be a huge hit, especially since the same girls that went to see Sweet Home Alabama will be going to see Daredevil just for Ben Afleck.

I'm posting really just to get thoughts on this as I think money can be made in the movies. Anyone know where I can find the number of theaters a movie is being released in?

For theater counts, hit boxofficemojo.com.

I agree Darkness Falls is a decent wager, but I'm less sure about Shanghai Knights/Daredevil. The first Shanghai movie did fairly well, and I'm not sure what kind of business Daredevil is going to drum up. Affleck looks like a clown in that Gimp outfit (and this is coming from a fan of the comics).

My best advice to you is to be VERY careful with BO props and don't bet a lot. I thought I had this figured out, too, but lost some bucks on some solid bets. It's not as predictable as you'd think.
